Canoeing 50 miler with Boy Scouts
I used some of my time off this year to go with my son on his troops 50 mile canoe trip. We paddled about 55 miles and hiked about 10. The worst part of the entire trip was the driving back and forth. About 12 hours each way from western WA to the norther Canadian Rockies. Murtle Lake was the destination, largest fresh water non motorized lake in North America. No house or cabins on shore, no electricity or plumbing. The lake is at the end of a 27km dirt road followed by a 3km portage. I can't recall ever being anyplace so remote.
I took a big bottle of ibuprofen with me and am proud to say I didn't need it once. I may be in better shape than I thought I was. Some pics. Found the turn off. Started out in the rain. After about a mile, hit the main part of the lake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nice trip
Scouting is one of the best father/son activities out there Beyond the fun and memories, you're giving him skills and traits he'll use all his life

Very, very awesome. Question, what does 'non motorized' mean?

Means no motors allowed on the water. Wind/human powered only
Congrats Op! Fun times for sure and a great accomplishment! My crew and I did the Voyageur route on the Canadian/US border and it was awesome. The final 9 mile portage was a killer but it's a trip we'll never forget. |

You need a dad trophy. Or maybe just a really, really big participation beer trophy.
