Which one ??

If you had to choose between a Sub and Patek 5167 only (SS only also) and $$ was no object, which would you go with and why ??

Sub for me. Subjectively less "fragile" and ease of servicing in south africa.

I would go with the Patek. They are much more rare in the wild but I guess that all depends on your circle

Personally, the PP for me - unless you care about having to replace the rubber strap every few years.

Which Sub you're talking about will be a big factor for many.

For me, I'd take any Sub over the 5167.

BTW, I'm referring to the SS Sub only. Date or No Date.

Have been down that same road. Had the 5167 first, yet due to it being a bit too fragile and easily scratched she was traded in and now the daily beater is the ceramic Sub ND. Added bonus is that the Sub is a far more accurate timekeeper and comes with an excellent SS bracelet. The Rolex metal band is leagues ahead of the Patek's due to the adjustable clasp. The Sub ND also looks great on an Everest strap, which is how i prefer, yet nice and easy to swap back to SS when the moment arises. The durability of the Rolex is just so much more...

BTW the lume on the Sub is far better, stays lit longer, and easier to read dial both day and night to my eyes. Sure the Patek has a pretty movement (and have had many Pateks over the years) and a bit lighter in weight, yet as i grow a bit older (perhaps wiser?), the Rolex Sub is an easy choice if one plans to truly use/wear the watch on a daily basis. YMMV JMHO

I'd choose the 116613lb but if just the SS Sub, then I'll go with the 5167, the Sub is so common and even people who know nothing about watches have this watch. When I read reviews on the Patek, everyone raves about it and more versatile than you may think

Sub. Sportier, more rugged, better looking, glide lock (if we're talking about the six digit refs). Just my opinions.

To me that PP looks bland, boring. I'd go with a Sub hands down.

However, if you were to give it to me, I'd get the PP (only to flip it immediatly for a Hulk and money in my pockets).

Sub ,i m just not confident with PP 5167 strap/clasp ,nice watch no doubt but a nice 5figures reference Sub is just a better choice.
nb get an LV an you are done.

I love the Aquanaut, and it's really the only watch that I'd consider to dethrone my SubDate, as a one watch guy. That being said, although I know that provenance and craftsmanship of Patek is on another level, and I think the Aquanaut looks great, a SubDate is really the reason I like Rolex in the first place, and it's the Leica M, Porsche 911, Rayban Wayfarer, etc. type of icon, so it's difficult not to want one. I'd still pick a 911 over an Aston Martin, too, even though I like Aston Martin and they're much more rare.

Some designs transcend style, and the Sub is definitely one of those designs, so I reluctantly say Sub, although it would have to be pre-ceramic.

Two significant price points... Def the sub unless you really need to spend the 4-5 times extra for the PP

Thankfully for me (and my wallet) I guess, I don't care for the nautilus, aquanaut, or royal oak.

the sub is a daily wearer and can take the heat. the PP is a beauty no doubt, but durability isn't on the sub level.

modern subc is at a great price point and if $$$ no object....
