Service interval
What are the toughts about the service interval of models before 2005
Every 5 years send it to RSC or every 10 years or wait until the watch stops?? I have four rolex watches and wear them one week in a month, so every watch is running for twelve weeks a year. What to do with the service interval. Please members your toughts about what you recommend. |

Two schools of thought:
1. If the watches are running for 12 weeks a year, you can extend the interval time as there is 1/4 the friction etc from wear. 2. Regardless of wear time, oils can dry out, so best to service every 5 years. Question: if services at RSC in the last few years, are newer synthetic oils used in older models? If so, could his result in longer intervals for watches in a rotation? |

Hi,
I've got two Rolexes and a Jaeger-LeCoultre, and I tend to wear each watch for a few weeks until my mood changes and I go on to another one. I've generally gone for a once-per-decade service interval in the past, and will likely stick with that in the future. |

I would usually look at around 10 years because of the integrity of the seal composition, unless the watch is running erratically before that.

Just had my 2003/04 GMT serviced at an RSC and they now recommend a service interval of 8 years because of the new oils etc. However I do not know the cutoff date when they started saying this or started using the new oils.

Interesting is to know if they use this new type of oil also in the older models?

Weird first post here
I got a DJii and a sub c this week, and had them sized at RSC SF. Watchmaker said "see you in a decade for their first service". He was pretty adamant that they would need nothing before then. Guess I should go introduce myself |

For used watches, I have had the San Francisco RSC take a look inside and see if a service looks in order.
That said, I usually don't service unless something goes - which is usually a mainspring. |

I think 10 years is a good rule of thumb for servicing.

I went about ten with my sub and only because I really wanted it polished up as it was looking really worn.

I'd been working on the assumption of every 10 years so the fact that Larry has confirmed gives me confidence.... he's usually right
