Can we all agree on one???

I have had many Rolex watches and no matter which one I have, I find negative talk about it. I know most of this is based on tast and everyone has their own opinion on what they like and don't like. Thing is, you get a watch and like it, but then you read something negative about it and don't look at it the same anymore! Talk about the power of suggestion. Even the beloved Daytona and GMT BLNR have "polished center links" and we all know how much negativity those PCL's bring. The worst thing I can do is buy a new Rolex and then read comments about it. Guess I'm easily influenced...lol.

We are a diverse group, that's for sure.

I would just be happy if we could stay positive and show all our members the decorum and respect they deserve.

Usually all the post are positive, especially when someone gets a new watch. But a lot of topics are brought up that could make you think twice about your purchase.

Agree...they usually are. But, they are going to be some nay sayers with anything, so relax and enjoy your purchase. You're never going to make everybody happy, here on TRF or anywhere else.

A lot of supportive members here on the forum. There are also many strongly opinionated members too. However such is life outside these watch forums as well.

I don't even think I can whole heartedly love a single watch. I always find something I wish was better. It's not like PCL is a quality issue it is simply a preference issue.

Never let someone else's preference affect you. Especially some person on the Internet!

Thing is, there is probably not one single watch everyone will agree on. Even the beloved 116500 Daytona that many here are very excited about, has plenty of people saying they don't like it.

Key is...do YOU like it? If so, there you go.

Only time I care what others think is when it comes to valuing the watch and whether the price makes sense if I decide to sell down the road. Like it or not, the popular view does seem to impact resale value.

I own many and find that I like the fact that a reference that does it for me may not for others. It's all perspective.

I buy what I like and really don't pay much attention to what anyone else thinks about my purchase. I also try not to make negative comments on someone else's purchase, if it works for you then great. On this I can agree,,,

Unless you agree with the negative comments then it shouldn't really matter. Take them on board by all means, best to have all different perspectives, but I would strive to not create anyone's opinion of your watch greater than your own.

This. Buy what you like, not what you're supposed to like.

It doesn't bother me in the least that some people don't like PCLs, cyclops, or lightening bolts - I still like my GMT and Milgauss

A watch that we all could agree on would be very bland and uninteresting I believe.

Just like my post...

If you buy what you like everyone else is wrong and has bad taste unless they agree with you. Don't change your watch change your attitude.

To attempt to answer the OP's question - I think there are many Rolex that on any rational assessment are pretty much 'perfect for purpose'.
Sure 'individual taste' is a big part of any preference but there ARE some items that are hard to fault.

I think the 'old 5 digit' DJ in all it's incarnations is hard to fault.
Additionally I would add the 116710 GMT IIC and the 116520 SS white-face Daytona.
My 14060 would make it if it wasn't for the tin-can bracelet.

If you're going to drop that amount of money on a watch and then be turned off it by a negative comment on an internet forum, then I'd stick to Citizen, Timex or G-Shocks if I were you. Look at it another way, for every negative comment on here you're going to get two dozen positives, so focus on them.

Having our choice validated by others is a good thing. However, it's your money and your wrist so it boils down to what you want and tits to what anyone else thinks.

I have to agree with Mick here too; get a thicker skin

I'm not gonna lie, when I buy a watch or simply share a picture or story of one my watches, it feels great to get positive feedback from the forum. Fortunately I've never received overwhelming or even a little bit of negative feed back so it's hard to tell how I'd take it.

I can say this, I've tried a huge variety of straps on my LVC and most were more or less shot down by the group. The oyster bracelet has always been my favorite look, so it wasn't difficult to switch back, but if I'd seen overwhelming positive feedback on a particular strap perhaps my LVC would be on a strap right now.

I am the world's leading expert on my own opinion. I do not allow anyone else to tell me or give me my opinion. I do however allow my wife to believe she does. I must have asked her a thousand times which watch she liked until finally she stopped looking at the pictures and just pointed. Slipped a picture of the SD4k in there and boom she think she picked out my watch!
