I was this close to buying one sight unseen online, but then I saw this image of a Polar up against my 16610 and could not believe the size difference, the thing is huge. |

Love it!! Im a huge fan.
Its a great "Modern Rolex"... one Im drawn to moreso than many of the other more classic Rolex designs. Its also low bling which I like a lot. It sports up well with a suit n tie... and also perfect with jeans and a t. And everything in between. |

I am a small guy (5'7") with a small to medium wrist and the Explorer2 is fine size wise. I am a former Panerai owner (44mm). That was too big!

When Rolex "upsized" this from the old 40mm it redesigned everything and it all fits - the date window is the correct porportion for the bigger dial - it is not the same size as the 40mm or as some have suggested the same distance from the center as the 40mm and is therefore too far from the edge. If you check in Photoshop the date window is in the same exact position as the Sub and GMT II just upsized exactly from 40mm to 42mm. The hands get some criticism for being too big but again they fit the watch perfectly and make the watch incredibly legible (thankfully no T-Rex hands here) - the what time is it at a glance is never a problem. Rolex also "upsized" the lugs which are 21mm and make finding straps problematic - not impossible, you just need to look a little harder. (Thankfully the Zenith is 21mm so I have straps!) But again - the 21mm lugs are the right size for the 42mm dial. It's a great all round tool watch. Mine says hi from the top Haleakalā, Maui this last March. |

I debated the two myself and chose the E2 because it sat flatter and was more streamlined. The new subs and GMTs seem too boxy for me.

I just bought a Datejust II 41 in white gold but have been looking for something which I can wear all day (and put a nylon NATO style band on so I don't scratch on my keyboard when typing).
Tried the Explorer II 42mm in Mexico the other day and it looks terrific. I'm definitely going to snap one up when I come across one at a good price. I was super glad too as I thought that the only Rolex which was available and larger than 41mm was the Deep Sea, which I find just a little too large for day to day wear (and I think it wouldn't look as good as the Explorer with a NATO). Best of luck in your search! |

Damn, I just reread this entire thread and for some reason my palms are all sweaty...
The only problem with this model is deciding between white or black. And I've had both and still couldn't tell you. All I know for sure is, one of these is getting added back to the stable when my watch fund recovers. OP: did you ever pull the trigger? |
