JJ Irani
I can't help noticing all the nice stuff said about the legend that is JJ Irani.
I never had the fortune to speak to him. I have read some of the nice stuff said about him. Do any of you have any nice stories to share about him? What did he like dislike? I think if I remember correctly he had a GMT and liked two tone? |

He hated Rados and liked to weigh his watches on his Butcher's scale.

He liked having a good time, and that's why he was so well liked!
Attitude is everything.

JJ had a big personality that reached all corners of the globe. He was a genuine soul who loved life and his family deeply. He loved his bluesy and on occasion....... His sheep.

Sounded like he was able to take the good and ignore the bad. All without being confrontational and the good feeling and sentiments came back to him. I wish I was able to do that.

LOL I posted my first post before I read yours. Weird how one man can have such a positive effect on people. I wasn't one of those individuals but, JJ use to Skype some members here. While he wasn't using his butcher skills, he would shearing his sheep to make sweaters and other items or his wife would make them rather, If I recall correctly. |

You see that smile?
That smile really sums up JJ's personality. I can't think of anyone I've ever encountered who was just an ordinary guy, not some TV personality or famous author or the like, who had such a huge impact on so many and on a global scale. The very fact that this thread exists also attests to the magnitude of JJ's personality.

I recall JJ being one of the first ones to welcome me to the forum as a 'newbie'. I believe my question was which direction to turn the crown to properly wind the watch. Of course nowadays, if I asked the same thing, I may be 'accused' of being a troll or worse. I really appreciate the fact he took the time to answer such a Rolex 101 question in such a teaching manner, rather than giving me the 'read your manual' response. He's definitely missed.

I remember when I first found this place, years before I joined, JJ was in every thread cracking a reply
Yes I was a lurker for a few years. When I think of him I think of the bluesy but that's probably a bias on the threads I had personally come across. May he Rest In Peace. |

The one thread of JJ's that sticks in my mind is where he posted pictures of his beloved Sub's. He gave the advice never to part with these watches ever .... Just hold onto them. Good sound advice for all of us flippers. We are always looking for our next " Grail watch" when we probably already own it. JJ was a true gentleman.
Not long after that I flipped my Sub, ended up regretting it and buying another. JJ's words came back to haunt me on that occasion. Maybe someone can find that thread?

He used to have a TT Sub with the blue dial, I had the same in black. It became a bit of a joke as to which was the more manly.
We also introduced him to the word "Tosser" and from then on, we all became "Tossers." There are lots of jokes and cartoons regarding JJ and sheep as he lived in New Zealand.
