Horrible AD experience

Hello TRF family,

I am looking for a recommended AD so that I can place my name on the list for a ceramic Daytona. Also, I am looking to pick up either an LV Hulk, BLNR, or a two tone GMT II.

Today I stopped by a local AD and the service was terrible. As soon as I would try on a piece, the lady would try to mention financing options since "I wouldn't be able to afford it". I was wearing the Two tone GMT II and when I asked my girlfriend if she liked the piece, the sales lady replied and mentioned that it would "look better on someone that is more wealthy, you should stick with stainless".

I was shocked by this, especially since we were both dressed fairly nice and I was wearing one of my APs.

Oh well!! I was ready to purchase at least one of the pieces mentioned above.

My apologies for the mini rant.

did you say or do anything while at this AD to voice your displeasure with the treatment you got?

Wow, that's just awful. I actually take mild pleasure in walking into an AD dressed in my most casual clothes and seeing how they treat me...will tell you a lot. Local AD is great thankfully, nothing but respect.

Yes, I let the manager know off to the side but I still do not want to do business with them.

Telling us makes for an interesting story but that woman has a boss. Telling the story to her manager or employer would result in a real sense of satisfaction.

You know, I keep reading posts like this, but my experience at my AD has always been so radically different.

This is the first negative encounter that I have had. But you are right, it is my fault that the lady was rude...

Anyways, I was hoping that someone could provide a connection for someone who works at an AD so that I can get on a list and make a purchase.

I'm too old and comfortable with myself to take insults from salespeople. I ask for the owner and let him/her know about the situation and walk out. This happened to me when I was 17yrs old, buying an Omega Moonwatch; never again!

That's exactly what I did.

Is there only one AD in your immediate vicinity? Why not just try another AD? It sounds like the experience you had, however unpleasant and unprofessional, was fairly unique to that particular AD.

Those comments were too forward and rude.

I sometimes wonder if the salespeople give this reverse psychology tactic where they make you feel like they think you won't buy anything so that you would buy something to prove something.

Whenever I feel like they are pulling my leg, I don't buy from them.

I have had great experience with Tourneau but the location close to me does not carry Rolex in store. I suppose I could have them order the model I like! I am going to go to the other AD in the area this week, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask in order to save some time.

This was in the United States. In other news, I enjoyed the two tone GMT II more than I thought I would. However, I have been dreaming of the Sub LV for so long I think I have finally made up my decision. It has always been between the LV and BLNR.

Eventually, I would like to own both amazing pieces.

Horrible AD experience

Wow.

That interaction would have been followed by a conversation with a manager or the owner.

Unacceptable. I would not buy anything from them unless the manager or sales person expresses apologies.

There's no justification for that kind of treatment at a Rolex AD or anywhere else. I would have also had a word with the manager or owner as you did.

My local AD has never sold me a Rolex, but I go in each time I'm getting jewelry for the wife and buy from the exact same salesperson each time. She is more than happy to oblige my watch hobby via discussion and trying on different models whenever I want.

I'd actually consider buying from them if their discount and pricing (on pre-owned) were within reality. But, given their location and volume, they know that basically any new sports model they have will go to a buyer willing to pay full retail plus tax.

Most people that work at ADs have been really nice and "true watch people". This was definitely uncharacteristic of my past experiences, I guess that is what shocked me the most.

Until today, I always thought the bad AD posts were silly myself.

I am just excited to finally add a Rolex to the collection. Truly, Rolex is an addiction!

Has anybody been able to pay msrp for a ceramic Daytona once they get the call from being on a list or are there still mark ups?

There should not be a markup at an AD.

Haha! She was really upset about it. We figured that talking to her boss would be enough.

I've never once been treated poorly at any AD. Sometimes not great, but never terrible. I've shown up not wearing a watch, haven't shaved in days, dirty sneakers, etc - and I look young.

If this happened, you should write Rolex a letter.

I would have been upset BUT that would have given me instant ownership of the situation. Which means to me discount city! I would have told the manager how upset I was then told her I was going to make it my mission to go to every social media avenue and blast them like no other. By then if the manager was smart she would be begging for you to buy at a major discount. If she didn't I would have told her I was going to the President/Owner. I wouldn't feel bad about taking a discount and buying from them. I would have given them my money all day long for a good deal. If it saves me money it's the best insult I ever got!
