Another UK pre price rise purchase - my first Rolex! 39mm OP

I suppose some things are just meant to be. I had been considering buying a 39mm OP for some time, but it seemed too much of a “step up” for me - my biggest purchase to date has been a Speedy pro. However whilst on holiday on Bath I happened to see Haywood Milton’s post about an impending price rise. A bit of Googling showed this rumour was credible so the following day I popped into the local AD - a little nervously I must admit.

I was fortunate as the AD had all three colours in stock. I had already discounted the grape and was leaning towards the blue as I thought the rhodium (grey) looked a little flat. How wrong I was - in the flesh it was just beautiful and “felt right”.

I think this piece just oozes quality and style. The sunburst dial is almost liquid and can appear anything from silver to pure black depending on how the light hits it. The blue markers are a beautiful flourish but subtle. I just knew it was the one.

Two days on and I am delighted. This is a significant purchase for me, not made lightly. But I have something that I will wear with pride for a lifetime. It is the perfect complement to my Speedy pro and Longines Hydroconquest. (In addition to about a dozen Seiko automatics and G shocks, this surely puts an end to my watch buying for the foreseeable future. Doesn’t it?!)

I can only offer the following camera phone pic at the moment. I will try to add some better quality images with my camera later if anyone is interested.

One last thing - following my purchase the AD was chatting quite openly about the price rise so I have no doubt it is going to happen. But I am grateful as it pushed to making me into a decision to purchase.

Congratulations!

Wish I'd been on commission for UK Rolex sales this week, following my announcement of the increase!

Enjoy your OP, very smart indeed.

Big congrats! This piece is definitely growing on me. Tried one out the other week and it looks fabulous on the wrist. Kind of laid back, doesn't scream ROLEX which can be the case with some of their newer models, and personally I definitely prefer this. Classic but still "sporty" enough = winner!

Wear it in good health.

Cheers,
Joe

Congrats and you picked a great first! Awesome compliment to your Speedy. I flipped my Speedy to get my first Rolex and although I didn't regret it at the time...I sure do now. The price has risen so much on the Speedy since I bought mine, new, that it just isn't worth it any longer.

Enjoy that OP!

Thanks all for your comments!

I've taken a few more photos but found it really hard to capture how this piece really looks in real life. As I said I went into the AD fully intending to buy the blue but asked to see the grey anyway - and was immediately taken by the way it looked. I don't think I've seen any photo or you tube video that really does justice to the dial, and the blue flashes really give it a "lift"

Anyway here are my pics...

It's a beauty. The grey is great and seems to change shades depending on the angle you see it from. You've done very well with your pictures. Congratulations on your first Rolex!
