Looking for a good olive oil

Can anyone recommend a good quality olive oil that is available for sale online?

I used to be able to get a great extra virgin oil from Syria that was fruity and had a peppery bite, but the troubles there have interrupted that source.

Olive oil does not get better with time, so large warehouse sources with old lingering stock generally aren't a good option. Which makes finding a good online source a bit challenging from here.

Not going to help you but I usually get mine pressed fresh up in the hills of Perth.
One of the benefits of living in a Mediterranean climate is that there's plenty of groves around or you could pick them off the street trees if you're quick enough.

Years ago I knew a small grower who would sell me freshly pressed oil. It's pretty hard to beat.

It's hard to find harvest dates in the online ads. Finding something a few months old is an even bigger challenge.

Not too sure the harvest dates myself, I just know to expect a package every year around x-mas. I'll ask though, they're located in Loutraki

You can find some fantastic Spanish olive oil, believe it or not, in Amazon. Other than extra virgin, cold pressed, first press, etc., people tend to overlook if the oil is from a single source or blended. Italian oils, for instance, tend to be blended; that is, they mix oils from different sources, even countries. Spanish oil, tends to be bottled by the producer.

In any case, you'll find plenty of information in Amazon about some of the very desirable Spanish oils.

Go to a dollar tree. Not kidding you. They get crazy stuff imported from Argentina, Greece. It's ironic. I know. Trust me.

Recently read a book all about olive oil by Nancy Jenkins. (Virgin Teritory). When rating top five oils, Costco's Kirkland brand was highly rated.

Shoreline is the best I have found. I've met the owner before and he owns the farms in Crete where the oil is packaged...it has an amazing flavor and a nice green color.

I'll look into it. TBH though, they are all blended from different producers, which puts me off a little (that's how you hide cheaper oil in a pricier product).

Thanks for the info, but I'm in Abu Dhabi, hence the online search.

Spent a lot of time looking. Here's the one I currently order and use. Excellent and very fresh. Italian family owned farm and pressings. Here's their web page. They also just signed a US distributor (Olive Oil Lovers) so you can order it stateside (link also below). Enjoy.

IMO there is no better olive oil than a high quality Sicilian when it comes to dipping or finishing. The color, aroma and flavor are noticeably different.

It's hard to get it fresh though. By the time it's pressed, blended, loaded on a slow boat, and warehoused in the US, it's already old enough o have lost a chunk of its flavor profile.

What a timely question.

I spent the weekend in Assisi and visited a home that pressed this can of olive oil Saturday.

Abdullah...You PM me your mailing address and I'll send you and fine bottle of Italian olive oil.

Well that worked it well Abdullah. Doesn't get any fresher than that. I often peruse the cooking isle at TJ Maxx when I am bored and have found some wonderful oils there. But not pressed three days ago!!! We use grape seed oil to cook.

I buy and import few hundred loads of olive oil. 80% of the world's olive oil is produced in Spain. Italy has done a great job marketing olive oil and blending different oils from Mediterranean countries to provide a consistent flavor profile month after month. Olive oil do breakdown over time and the same oil will have a slightly different flavor profile one month from the next. Buy olive oil in the metal tins as they are the best storage container for this natural oil. Stay away from clear plastic bottled oils. I buy in metal tins and store it in a dark, cool and dry place. Then I have a small container that gets refilled for the kitchen counter top.

If you are a stickler about a specific country of origin, then look for a "product of xxx" instead of a "packed in xxx"

All olive oils are great if it is from the first press and are called extra virigin for obvious reasons.

I like Tunisia olive oil actually and find them to be of an excellent value.

The oil arrived today, though the USPS tracking still has it in another country.

Many thanks John. I've already sampled it. Light fruity flavor with a mild peppery finish.

A really nice oil, and an awesome gesture for you to send it.
