I am 26 years old, by this same time next year I will have the funds for a Day-Date 40.

My question to you is.

Should I buy a piece like this used or new?

What is the likely hood of a Japanese Rolex dealer approving 30% off on a floor model?

Are their discounts in the preowned market?

What are your thoughts on a 27 year old teacher wearing a solid gold day date? Is it doing too much?

I wouldn't wear a yellow gold rolex to work as a teacher. Too loud for that kind of job imo. Anytime when your off duty I think it's a great idea and it looks great on you. I would pick up something less flashy for work.

True. On the flip side, if your coworkers are just a bunch of terrible people with nothing going for them, this ought to just be the icing on the cake. I can tell they don't like me and I daily wear a AP diver.

I wouldn't wear it teaching unless you're teaching an MBA level course to executives (Unlikely at 26, but hey who am I to say its not possible). But the DD is a fantastic watch and if you can afford what you really want, there is never a reason to say no!

My advice would be to buy what you like regardless of what others may think. Buy it, wear it, be happy! And I don't think there's anything wrong with buying pre-owned since you'd likely be saving a substantial amount of money.

I purchased my DD40 from SoHais who was able to get me a great discount on a BNIB with no name on the warranty card. Wear what you want also. I'm a 33 yr old commercial real estate agent and could care less how loud my watch is.

A most excellent choice of grail. And it looks great on you.

My advice: get the best deal you can on it. PM will not hold value as well as steel in the secondary market.

As far as being a teacher. Sure, why not? Nobody notices your watch anyway.

I would not buy a PM Rolex used only new and stickered, so try to get at least 25% off from an AD or a reseller.

OP, I would buy used, if possible. DDs don't hold value like sports models, especially in precious metals. Get the best deal you can, in the right condition for you, and don't look back.

I'm sure you would get a better deal in a used model since PM watches tend to lose value pretty quickly. OTOH if this is your grail watch and you never plan on selling it, you might want to own it new. There have been articles on a glut of PM watches on the market. So I would try to get the best deal you can.

But if you get your grail watch at age 27, what is there to look forward to?

It's a great watch and puts a smile on my face for sure.

I would shoot for 20-25% off.

I am 29, I do not wear my DD40 with diamonds to work. When I am at work I wear a SS model.

However only you know your comfort level and surroundings, be confident in your choice.

I did before on a gold AP and it just didn't feel right and the marks it had before were always bugging me. This is a high luxury purchase and I now know I want to be the only owner and I'd pay a bit more for that.
