Leaving out the ruby and other precious stone dials that are available, and forgetting the story of the white faced-Pan Am executive model (rumor), WHY do you think Rolex doesn't offer the GMT and Sub, two of it's best (if not THE best) sellers with a white-dial option? I am talking strictly the SS models, but they offer both in the EX II line up. It is honestly one of the reasons I chose my 216570 Polar over the GMT, I find the white face a bit easier to read. I like the white face on watches so much when I get my SS DJ41. (Rght after Basel I hope

) I'll get it with a white dial as well. And it kind of make sense a white face could be more legible, something in a diving and a Pilot's watch you would want.... So....

Why not?

I have wondered this also. Bamford does a custom white dialed with white ceramic 116610 "snow trooper" that looks pretty cool.
It would be nice to have more white dialed sport watch options.

There is a very rare white dial Submariner. It looks awkward and probably is insanely expensive.

Christopher Ward made their Trident diver with a white dial for awhile. It was a nice combo. I prefer the classic sub, but variety is the spice of life!

I don't think a white dial diver is as readable ... seems it's only been done on occasion as a novelty, no?

Maybe a flash of white scares off fish, darker colours seem better suited.

I think the idea is intentional. Rolex offers a GMT complication with a white dial; it's the Explorer II.

The lume didn't show up very well on watches that I have owned with a light colored dial. Could be one reason?

I think contrast is probably the answer.

Cockpits and underwater can be difficult visually.

What does our resident fighter pilot say?

The dials on commercial aircraft were black and the markings/indicator hands were luminous white. At night, and in low light, this combination saved eye strain and preserved residual night vision.

Same for gauges and pressure dials in submarines.

No offense to the Guys who think there is a huge difference between them....

They are practically the same watch and the yachtie comes in a variety of dial colors. Sure its marked 100M but everything is practically the same except the caseback...

The YM comes in a white dial? Also, it is definitely not the same watch as the GMT.

A white dial GMT has been on my "what I'd like to see at Basel" list for several years now. Alas, it hasn't happened. Maybe they are saving it for the day when they release Pt versions of the Sub and GMT.

In a way, but the one thing I really miss with my EX II as compared to when i wore a GMT is the movable bezel, I was using that for all kinds of reasons on a daily basis.

They are killing the white dial Milgauss. Maybe they'll recycle the markers for your HiViz white dial GMT?

You need to go to an AD and compare the two.

Superficially they look similar, but nearly everything is different, including the bezel, the mid-case, the depth rating, the bracelet clasp, and, as you say, the case back.

That's a pretty long list.
