First world problems...

So I have battled something but just now thought to post it... I have been obsessing over scratching up the clasp of my watch on my desk when I am working on the computer (which is all the time, I am a systems engineer).

So now I put a piece of paper on the desk under my left wrist, so my watch is rubbing on the paper and not the desk. Not sure if it helps or if I am just going crazy LOL

That's not a bad solution. Your co-workers might look askance if you kept a diaper on your desk.

I like to wear my watch loose which I've found as a secondary benefit is the avoidance of desk diving marks as I slide it up the wrist.

My advice... embrace the scratches and just enjoy your watch. I bought my watch because I know one day I will hand it down to my kid and I want it to look like I lived in it. In the end it's just a watch and life is too short to worry about scratches that can easy be buffed out during service.

The paper will also leave a dull mark after a period of time.

How about a mouse pad instead? Maybe one with a Rolex logo.

Look inside the office supply cabinet. Your employer provides scratch proofing material free of charge.

At about 1" a day, applied at the beginning of the shift and removed before end of the shift, this should last you a whole working year!

Problem solved!

I am almost embarrassed to admit that I am on the same boat with you. Those damned PCLs. I hope to get over it soon though...

You're a grown man. Wear a proper dress shirt to work. The clasp will be under your cuff.

I too was OCD so just cut a bit of tape and put it on the clasp a few weeks ago.

I prefer essentially disposable NATO straps, but what about a piece of InvisiShield used for smartphone screens? If the clasp is the primary place scratches are picked up, seems a simple solution that shouldn't need replaced very often and would be nearly invisible.

Go with a Nato strap and put your worries aside... then when it's dress-up time, put that unscratched, beautiful bracelet on!

I have the opposite problem, I'm careful not to scratch up my desk with the watches(its one of those desks that has a thick layer of glass on top)

The Scotch Tape solution seems like a good idea for those concerned with desk diving. Otherwise there will always be the two views of whether to care or not. Personally I do care and take reasonable precautions without getting too far out there. That said, those scratches will always sneak up on you despite your best efforts. Cheers!

The problem with that is that you may then damage that relatively expensive bubble wrap. I think you should probably cover the bubble wrap with tape.

It's just a watch, Dude. Every scratch is a trophy of a life well lived, even scratches from the desk where you make your living.

I have been there but it will pass with time. You should just enjoy the watch and if it means putting a paper under or taping the clasp just go for it man. Life is too short for either way. Good luck

Scratches portray a watch that is enjoyed, not obsessed over!
