16750 Question
Hi all,
First post. I'm new to Rolex, just bought my first one a couple months ago from one of the RPM dealers. It's a 1982 16750, 7.3 mil. SN. Honestly, I thought I did a lot of research on these watches prior to purchase, but I have since found this forum and been blown away by all of the information here. From what I can tell, the watch has a MK 2 dial. The hands seem to match well. The bracelet is a 93150, which I understand was an option for the watch at the time it was originally purchased. A couple questions in particular: Is the insert correct? I believe it should be a red back one. I don't know how to get it off, and I'm afraid I'd scratch it to death if I tried. Also, are the hands correct? They all seem to match, color-wise, to each other and to the dial. On the date wheel, the 6 is not open. Does that mean it is a replacement date wheel? Honestly, I tried to practice the "buy the seller" mantra, and in doing so, I guess I figured everything would be correct, but after reading so much here, I'm not so sure. I appreciate everyone's willingness to share so much knowledge. Thanks. |

I would say that this is a nicely overhauled GMT Master.

Great watch! Wear it in good health!
I believe the date wheel should be open 6 and 9, if you want to be period correct. |

I'm not an expert but I think your watch looks great. The model and vintage are the same as mine so I have included a photo for comparison.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I really do like the watch, and I've been wearing it for a while now.
The "open 6" thread that was started a couple days ago got me worried, however, since my 6 is not open. I'm curious why the date wheel would ever need to be changed? How would it get messed up? |

The red/blue insert is correct for this model. The red/black version was introduced in a later model (16760)

Yes. I misread that as red black rather than "red back"

The insert for the serial range being discussed should have a red back if you need it to be correct.

The tiny fingers that stick out on the inside of the datewheel for the GMT are "slapped" once a day, every day, by the mechanism that gives you the instant date change.
That daily slapping takes it's toll and damage, bend, or break a finger frequently. There is no shame in replacing broken or damaged movement parts...

And to everyone, thanks again. Like I mentioned previously, I love the watch and have been very happy wearing it. It's my first one, so I appreciate all of the positive feedback. |
