Which way does your crown point?
Ok, I'll start. Not that I'm OCD, ok maybe a little..It's obviously not a deal breaker for me, however, as much as we spend on these watches they could spend a little more time milling the threads so our crowns point upright..

Mine points towards 6 o'clock and I'm part of the camp that Rolex knows they can do it (See the Sky-Dweller) and they think it looks good (Look at all of their ads.) As much as Rolex prides themselves on perfection I think it would be nice if all crowns lined up correctly.
That all being said it doesn't bother me, I just think it would be cool if they were all pointing straight up. |

Bothers me as much as the Ford logos on my rims not all facing the same direction.

Mine pretty much lines up straight to 12 o'clock. My old SubDate actually lined up perfectly perpendicular like the advertisements.

It's random....I should know I have enough pieces modern and vintage to know. No one looks @ it square on from the side to check your crown orientation anyway, nothing to worry about.

There were 4 Subs in my AD's case on the day I bought mine, which was my first Rolex. I bought the one that had the crown closest to 12. Now after owning it a few months I realize why people say they don't care. I won't worry about it on any future purchases.

I'd rather have rolex spend the time on more pertinent things than have to pay more for a watch because the R & D department spent time on the development of something as insignificant as a crown position

I'm not the OCD type, but my 42mm polar Exp II crown is just a few degrees off straight up when screwed down. First one I've had like that.

If I crank down the crown as hard as I can with my fingers - it will end up somewhere around 2 o'clock. If I stop when I feel significant resistance from the compressed O-ring(s) is right there - 12 o'clock exactly. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.
What happens at service though - when they routinely replace the crown tube? Are all tube threads indexed the same. Are they screwed the same number of turns in the case? I suspect the answer to all these questions is negative so it's probably a hit and miss... |

I agree, for the price point paid for the admission of "perfection", it should line up perfectly. Mine does not do so either.

I've seen the SkyDweller patent to keep the upright crown logo and it's fairly intricate. I know nothing about manufacturing, but I'm curious why this is not something that can be controlled. Presumably there is some orientation of threads and logo that keeps the coronet upright? Would someone explain why it's not that simple?

My Explorer II lines up perfectly; all others are essentially upside down or not far off. It does not bother me in the least.
Then again, oddly enough I line up the crown of my Omega Speedmaster Professional since it is hand wound and can be aligned any way I wish... |

I have one that points up the other down. I am not afraid to say it does bug me. I mean I don't lay awake at night thinking about but I would prefer it faced up.

It doesn't bother me, but for the price we are paying for them, I think they should lineup. Especially since they pride themselves on perfection

It doesn't bug me at all, but I do wonder why Rolex doesn't take pride in this. I'm sure there are 100's of pieces inside the watch that Rolex takes pride in. Why not this one piece That everyone can see from the outside?

Glad to see that most feel the same way, since Rolex and perfection are synonymous you would think they wouldn't let a detail like this slide...
I still luv my sub though.. |

Unless the mechanics of it keep it from making financial sense, it's very odd to me that they don't align the crowns.
Does it matter? No. But Rolex orients them all properly in their photos for a reason |

My GMT happens to face the same way as in all the Rolex ads. I'm not too excited about it since when it gets serviced who knows what position it will face.

On the DD and recently flipped DJ, almost straight up as God intended. On my bluesy, about 8 o'clock.
