Crime V Police.
No disrespect to the Police in general but thats how I now feel.
In the cities and now even rural parts of Wales hooded youths are running amuck's, muggers, rapists, thieves, prostitutes and junkies walking the streets without fear of prosecution. Vicious foreign Gangs are common place in our big cities. In short crime is spiralling out of control and our police force are doing nothing,so it seems. Quite simply the Police are not working because they serve the government and not the people. For example take private security firms that are paid for by the community, and patrol many housing estates nowadays. Because they know who their pay masters are, you can be assured that they will turn up when called upon, and they will do a good job. That connection with the people is no longer there for the police. They do not give a toss about most crime because it is the government that pay their wages and the government do not have the interests of the people at heart anymore. They have forgotten that it is them that serve us. And now more concerned with controlling the population and making money from them. Hence we now have a police force that is hell bent on prosecuting law abiding citizens for petty Misdemeanours. They don't care about muggers or burglars anymore, they're more interested in issuing a fine to someone caught short or someone dropping litter or locking up pensioners for not paying council tax. This will never work and until their ties with the government are severed, they never will. The whole system needs a radical rethink. Policing needs to come from the community, and it needs to be focused on protecting the people. We need police stations on every estate and we need coppers, out walking the beat, and communicating with people again. The people need to see a human face for crime prevention, not some bleeding CCTV camera, they are not so much of a deterrent now. The police force now is nothing more than a political instrument of the government to raise money from the innocent public, and to make sure those in power stay there.Despite numerous government initiatives, the present system of crime control is failing. We live in an increasingly surveillance-based society and yet are more fearful than ever. The police are given more and more powers, but seem even more distant from the real communities they serve. And despite the unprecedented sums being spent on the police, Britain the world today faces record crime rates. Traditional and effective bobby-on-the-beat policing has been abandoned in favour of expensive and intrusive technological toys, such as CCTV cameras and over-reliance on patrol cars. Police management has lost its focus on preventing crime and has become a variety of politically-correct social work, more concerned with the rights of criminals, than with those of their poor victims. My own experience a few months ago when my Son and partner was brutally attacked. And he needed emergency surgery to repair a ruptured spleen. And the police IMO did next to nothing to apprehend this gang of low life thugs. I can truly say that some police officers really do want some kind of system where they are on some kind of beat, on foot patrol. The problem is the amount of paperwork - a phenomenal amount is being created in the so called modern years, due to the amount of new computer systems, where everything has to be recorded twice. And when they catch these thugs the police spend so much time filling in so much paperwork. This can be laid directly at the door of the bleeding lawyers, whose motives are to get their normally guilty, lying, scumbag, clients off the hook. Because PC Plod didn't tick the 38th box down on form AS/336/91/B.And all these pay for their next Merc from the legal aid system they "earn" from all this duplicitous P/C crap. And talking of crap. Quote. Jail toilets face away from Mecca Facilities in a prison are being built so Muslim inmates do not have to face Mecca while sitting on the toilet. The Home Office said two new toilet blocks are being installed specially as part of a refurbishment at Brixton jail in south London. Faith leaders had told prison bosses it was unacceptable for Muslim inmates to face Mecca while using the toilet. "The refurbishment has been carried out with due consideration for the Muslim faith", a Home Office spokeswoman said. "Following consultation with faith leaders within the prison, various small adjustments were made to ensure the faith issues of all prisoners are taken into account." She added: "The money spent did not affect a great price increase in the overall cost of the refurbishment programme." And if you believe that I just seen Elvis Presley on the moon driving a london double decker bus.Pulled by the famous race horse Shergar with Lord Lucan in the saddle

Craig, one hell of a piece of writing. One more thing to clarify from my side of the pond. I always became very angry after I had to read in the local paper that some punk, after having been apprehended after his 90th (!) car break-in, walked the street in less then a day. Small crime, not enough jails, overworked judicial system, etc. But we can’t blame the cops for this! It’s the DA or local ‘sandal clad’ politicians who cause this.
Now a question for our worldwide TFR audience. Does your local constabulary know a ticket quota system? I’ll explain. In this system from hell, a yearly quota for tickets is set (speeding, running red lights, jay walking, etc.). The number of tickets issued counts in the performance evaluation of police corps. This system was finally abandoned last month, because even our most insane politicians had to admit that “an air of conflicting interests” was surrounding the scheme.

Frans,
I have heard of this ticketing quota allocated to each cop, but not sure how far it is true. JJ

Craig a great reply and I agree with most of what you said.Dont get me wrong, I know the police have a difficult job, and myself respect that. But I remember when I was in my teens, the village policeman he was the man.Everybody respected him,and if he told you to do something you jumped. But today here in the UK there seems to be little, or no respect for the police. The trouble today well I am talking about the UK there seems to be little deterrent for crime. And the punishment does not seem to match any crime, the system is full of loop holes.Like you say bloody lawyers, finding the slightest mistake in evidence, that must be very frustrating. And getting scumbags off, when the police know he/she did commit the crime. Now all this P/C crap in todays society don't help.Bring back the bobby on his beat bring back the respected policeman back into the community.

But things are getting better. The local PC is back. He’s the senior police officer, often a bit older and more relaxed who knows his beat through and through. And it works all be it slowly.
