PCL Haters - has the 116500 changed your mind?

With all the comments I've read over the years lambasting PCLs, it's fun to see how crazy people have gone over the "new" Daytona. First, the craze of the BLNR, then the 116500 is introduced and I've never seen watches with shiny center links more popular. I figured these new references had to have converted more than a handful of doubters.

You could always brush the center links, but who was embraced their 78590 bracelet?

True - but people were never lining up or paying near-100% markups to get their hands on the 116619. I'm talking about the average stainless steel collector that swore they'd never buy a watch with PCLs that took one look at the new Daytona and jumped on a waiting list.

Yep. It was the 116520 and the BLNR that converted me. Before that I was a hard core Sub guy and said I'd never get a "blingy" watch with PCLs.

PCLs look nice, but there are a lot of people who don't want the extra bling. Ceramic Rolexes are loud enough without the shiny bracelet.

well, there's only one way to get them new, today, so i suppose that answers that. but also with the newer models theres an increase in the polished profiles, height and ceramic bezels which add even more reflective shine, which just doesn't jive with sport/tools imop. there's nothing wrong with them; this is just a personal preference/bias i have for some pita reason.

no doubt i've tried to like PCLs. had a milgauss; gone. had a daytona; gone (also no date didn't help). i actually still have a 16613 but rarely wear it.

when i first got into rolexeses in the 80's as a kid an AD would swap a band with little reservation when i went shopping with grown ups. i think rolex should offer the option today.

Nope, I have a white dial DaytonaC and would love it brushed, both case and centre links......just like Paul Newman was able to do all those years ago.

Funny don't you think that Rolex makes a minute long commercial in the Oscars to show their history.....but you cannot buy any models that are close now. Cases are huge in comparison or silly things like PCL take over.

Now would Newman have bought a Daytona with PCL, I think not.

I love the PCLs on the 500. I wear mine every weekend and have almost no noticeable scratching. I wear it carefully but nothing over the top. I think they have a beauty about them that only makes sense once you have the watch for a while. I wouldn't change a single thing about the 500.

That was my #2 reason for trading my daytona hated the PCL's although if the budget allowed I would consider a WG Ceramic Daytona on leather.

People aren't lining up for this one, though.

It's personal preference. Some love PCLs, some hate them. Personally, I LOVE them!!! Always have.

Didn't buy the Daytona 500 or the Z-Blue Milgauss because of the PCLs, bought them because they are excellent references that appeal to my sense of style.

A Rolex main store once offered me a polish of my YG GMT-IIC, I said OK and when they came back they had accidentally set the machine to make the whole bracelet brushed! It did not suit the YG and I was absolutely gutted as I wasn't sure how it would be resolved (the salesgirl who was responsible was devastated I think).

A couple of days later she stopped by my office to drop off the watch refinished (this time by the in store Rolex watchmaker!) and they had re-finished the whole thing correctly with no signs of the mistake.

As such, if they wanted to do you a favour, I think it is very very easy for them to finish the bracelet brushed and then at a later date put back to PCL. Maybe you lose a couple of microns of material, but it's not a big deal (well not to someone like me with modern watches, aware it might be to collectors of rare older pieces of course!). So certainly an option if you happen to be on good talking terms with an AD that has the equipment in house.

I have a BLNR and dislike the PCL. Think brushed would be nicer and would stop the watch from being a little on the loud side. I have thought about having the bracelet brushed but figured it's what the watch comes with and gives me an excuse to lust after a non-PCL model like the SD4K or even an Exp1.
