Is the 15202st ideal for daily use? Is the 2121 caliber reliable to use daily? It's 50 meters, but does it have a screw-down crown?

Depends what you do every day. Working at the office, sure it would be a great selection.

Yes. General rule of thumb 5711 = carefree swimming. 15202 light swimming.

The 15202 does not have a screw down crown because the original royal oak did not have a screw down crown. That said, I agree and would much prefer AP included one.

Serious question. Does the screw down crown make a difference when it comes to water resistance? If two watches are rated 5 atm but one has a screw down crown and one does not is there a practical difference? I understand the "feeling" that a screw down crown provides peace of mind, but if both rated equally does it make a real world difference?

Yes it makes a world of difference, you can mistakenly pull out the crown on a non-screw down crown watch underwater, therefore flooding the movement with water. I have previously had a Bell & Ross which does not have screw down crowns and this has never happen, but then again a 15202 is $20k+ timepiece, I would not want to risk damage to the JLC movement.

Agreed. A vintage car with no seat belts is just as safe as a new car with air bags as long as you never have an accident.

Padi claims he knows of a diver that went down some 20m with his Daytona pushers unscrewed. I gather for casual pool wading it's more of a safeguard. One that I require. I don't need anxiety of making a 5k mistake while I'm swimming

But unless I am mistaken, water resistance is not solely dependent upon whether the crown is screwed down or not. The seals within the crown tube and the case provide the protection for the movement, not really the crown. Which is why I asked the question. For example, and yes I know it is not directly comparable, but the water resistance for a sub does not depend upon whether the crown is screwed down or not. What I don't know is how the movement for the 15202 is sealed. I don't think it's as simple as screw down crown okay to swim, no screw down crown you cannot swim, when both have the same water resistance rating.
