Flip BLNR for a 2009 Sea Dweller

Before reading, please think of this in the context of thin wrists at 6.75 inch and I am not a big guy.

I have had a SubC....it's gone. Not the watch I dreamt about and always wanted. To me it just does not look like a Sub should with those lugs. It wore much bigger than I hoped and I missed the classic Sub shape, as it was that shape that I really wanted.

I have a white dial DaytonaC.....totally in love, it comes out on special occasions. It will never be sold. This fits me perfectly.

I have just had purchased for me by my lovely wife a 2009 V serial sub date, new old stock at a very reasonable price, not yet arrived but I cannot wait.

I really should have bought a 5 digit straightaway. They fit me perfectly from the ones I have tried on before and it just the quintessential Rolex to me.

I have a BLNR, I really do like this watch. It is really special, but I find it wears too big, and the lugs still look too chunky to me.

Here is the deal, I have been offered a very good trade on my BLNR for a NOS SeaDweller 2009 V serial.

I will have,

DaytonaC - for best
2009 Sub Date - for everyday in the office etc
2009 Sea Dweller - the beater on NATO etc

My thoughts,

I love 5 digit Rolex
I have tried a whole bunch on and they fit me perfectly.
The 6 digit models just don't do it for me, as much as I like all the features and look on the BLNR I prefer pre Ceramic models.

Do you think i should do the trade on the BLNR.

Getting the nos SD is hard at the right price now, while I ca always get another BLNR.

The NOS SD is nice but I think it would make more sense to trade the blnr for a 16710 gmt. You already have a 5 digit sub and the SD is very similar. The trade valuation is spot on if the SD has stickers imo.

Have u tried on the SD? It's a much thicker n bulkier head than the gmt. If u only care that it's 5 digits, then there r many choices out there. The aforementioned 16700/16710, expy 2 polar, the Kermit comes to mind n fit ur collection nicely.

I blame it on the autoconnect.

+1 on a 5 digit gmt. If I ever part with my blnr that's what I'd get. I don't see a point of having a subc and a sd.

Why are you paying the NOS premium on the SD when you will be wearing it?

There are a bazillion quality pre-owned ones out there ready to wear that will put you in a positive CASH out on your BLNR trade...

Agreed. Buying NOS for a daily beater is madness imo.

Yeah, I mean why pay for the BIG premium that speculators and "collectors" are putting on these NOS watches, just to ruin the "reason" why you paid so much over fair pre-owned price...

Go ahead and trade, you clearly want to, BLNR is a nice watch and a firm forum fave but it's no sacred cow in your house.

Not many V serial 16600 out there which is what the OP is considering. Lots of BLNR and Rolex still makes them and for at least another year will. Easy enough to replace it.

OP I'd do it. If you don't like the SD, easy enough to get a BLNR back

Does the V series and it being NOS matter? I'd imagine you can get a quality 16600 for significantly less than the NOS. finances aside, the 16600 is awesome. But a bit thicker than the BLNR.

I see even used ones going for quite a bit more now. DavidSW had one last night for $8,675 and it was an older box / red tag, it was worn too it wasn't NOS. I saw a few on the forums here for around $7,500 but they get snatched up quickly.

I would try to find a used one in great condition and save the money over the NOS prices. I would also try on the SD if you haven't, because the BLNR is more comfortable (IMO) and the SD is pretty thick. If it wasn't so thick I would have bought it as well

I love the blnr but cannot deny the sd4k is a better fitting watch and the proportion is much better for guys like us (6.7 inch wrist guys). I'd still find it a rough trade since personally I love the way the blnr looks.

Thanks guys, I get the GMT view and have considered this. The SD just wears a bit different to the Sub which is what I like.

I have both and wouldn't make that swap if I could only have one. Not in a million years.

You're giving up a lot with the BLNR but you have to wear it

If flipping the BLNR for a 5 digit, I'd go Pepsi or Coke 16710 for greater variety. Personally though, I'd hang on to the BLNR. One of, if not the best all around SS Rolex produced today.

I have similar sized wrists. I had a 16600 and found it wore well, although a little top heavy perhaps. However, it didn't work well on a Nato as the case is a little thick for such a thin strap.

Guys, thanks for the responses and great advice.

I think I am going to bed my Sub in, hang onto the BLNR.

In the meantime I am going to try the SD for fit and maybe get one not nos. Quite possibly I may go for a Pepsi/Coke GMT.
