Advice needed on 1655
Hi All,
New to the forum, been active over on OF but had and itch for a 1655!! I was bidding on and won this '72 Explorer II on ebay and just realized it's got a MK7 service dial. How does this affect the value of the watch and was $9100 too much for this considering the dial? Any and all feedback would be appreciated! https://*******/cQhgQI |

U need to ad some proper pics......9100 is cheepo for a 1655...so it probably reflects the service dial....

First, this link is your friend and will tell you virtually everything you need to know: http://stefanomazzariol.blogspot.com...freccione.html
That Explorer II looks to be a top-to-bottom service re-do, including the bezel, hands and dial. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you knew that going in, and you're comfortable with the price. Assuming all the replacement parts are genuine, it's still a cool watch. It just lost a lot of its appeal/value in the world of vintage Rolexes, which might not matter to some people. You'd never get an all-original Explorer II in good shape for anything close to $9K, so maybe you did OK, as long as you're happy with it. |

The one thing I'll say about that Ebay listing is that there was no disclosure of the fact that everything had been changed, which isn't cool. Now, it could have easily been researched and shown to be a service watch, but a good seller would have disclosed that. |

Seller agreed the listing was not entirely forthcoming regarding the work that had been done to the watch in the past and was happy to unwind the sale...I must say that was a quick way to learn about the intricacies of the 1655. Thanks for the support and feedback from all! Think I'm going to sniff around and find a nice 5512 or 5513 and take my time and research it to death :-)
