I currently own a Rolex SD4k (116600) and found a Deep Blue DSSD at my local AD.

Question for the forum...do you think these 2 watches are redundant? I also have a BLNR.

No. There is no such thing as a redundant Rolex, they all matter.

not even close, completely different feels, the d-blue is a much bigger and thicker piece, in a good way.
I love both of mine, and its always a tough decision as to which to where for the day.
Will be even tougher when I get my hands on the new SD50th

Its funny..to me they are redundant. I own the DSSD black dial...it seems to complete what ever the other styles are trying to do....Classic is always best in my opinion.

As long as your happy that's all that matters. SD4K DBlue and BLNR would make me extremely happy. Some people may think there is not enough diversity but not me.

The blue/black dial makes the D-Blue completely different from any other Rolex diver, including the black DSSD, which I had previously

To me, the SD43 is the one to have in the diving watch category. I had a DSSD and didn't like the height/face size ratio. I want to pick up a SD43 soon as I fear the red writing will disappear with the next update. It feels to me like that feature will only be for the 50th Anniversary model.

Unfortunately I am unable to get to the AD to try it for 5 weeks

Gotta make a decision tomorrow to be fair to the AD and others waiting.

Not redundant at all if you like the watch they may look similar to the uneducated eye but they both wear very differently on the wrist and of course you will know the difference thats all that matters and the big plus is that your wife will think its the same watch and have no idea you bought a new one

The old sd and dssd aren't redundant but I'm not sure the same couldn't be argued for the new sd since both are far more capable than anything we will ever use and the size is the samish.

Sounds like a Daytona might be in your future. Land, sea and air never gets old. The d-blue is a great piece and I always imagine one in my collection.

To be honest, I think having two of just about any metal bracelet Rolex watches is a bit redundant, unless you happen to be someone who both scuba dives and times race cars, or something like that.

The D-Blue is an acquired taste. Either you love the dial or you don't (I'm in the later camp). Don't worry about what other people think - focus on if you LOVE the watch and you can/would wear it (it is a Deepsea, ergo top heavy and thick). If it checks all the boxes - then get it.

Nothing like the Blue Deepsea. I had the black version and it was not even close to the blue. I never thought a dial would make such a difference.
