So I called AMEX about getting the metal card sent out to replace our plastic ones and this feature is not available for Canadian Platinum card holders.

With many things being 3x points. You get $300 free travel credit on anything travel related. So your only playing $150 per year for the card.

Amex Plat - Better travel benefits such as better lounges, hotel status both (gold SPG status), (Hilton and Ritz Gold Status), 1x for all purchase except 5x on travel through amex or direct from airlines. Approximately 1.9 cents earned per point. Annual fee is $550 and a lot harder to use the $200 travel credit as you cant use it on tickets for travel. You do get $15 a month on uber credit which gets you around $200 off. So you technically are paying more for this card.

I have a need for both so i just try to capitalize on all the benefits as much as i can so i get my moneys worth from the annual fees.
TSA Precheck or Global Entry fees covered by Amex also

I didn't mention that because they both do that now. Both Amex Plat and Reserve cards reimburse the $100 for Pre TSA/Global Entry

Im more talking about the difference not the similarities.

Is this about Platinum, platinum watch ? lol 😂

Ha! I can confidently say it's not about the platinum!

I know I'm a better man now that my credit card is metal. Plastic cards are for mere peasants. I'm a true VIP and winning at life.

This is very true. Although I spend my winters in warm climates. Haven't seen snow (except for Aspen) in 15 years.

The metal card speaks volumes though, as I'm always looking to impress the cashier at the grocery store on those nights where I actually have to go shopping. Heaven forbid. I will clarify that only happens on nights my butler is ill.

I have the Sapphire Reserve and it has been a great card so far. I don't care if my cards are made of metal or plastic. All I want is something with good features and customer service and Chase has delivered on both fronts.

Metal card lasts longer than the plastic one. I go back to my mailing address once a year and I cannot afford to be without my card with frequent business trips.

I understand your humour but there is a valid reason why lots of people prefer this.

Yes they work. I have been using my US based chip cards in europe for the 6 years i have lived here without any major issues. Sometimes they ask for an ID since it isn't pin based but that is the only issue i have had.

US cards are all pretty much chip and signature (i think barclays issues a pin card), but they work the same. They also work in automated machines like train ticket kiosks the only difference there is they don't require a signature or a pin, it just approves the transaction when you put your card in.

If its not chipped at all (IE magnetic strip only) lots of places won't accept that type of card at all in my experience. Usually in touristy areas you are ok as they are familiar with them, but out of the main cities its different.

The best workaround if you don't like having to sign all the time is to add your card to Apple Pay as almost everywhere accepts contactless payments for smaller transactions and its quicker too, just scan and go.

How do you know your card number? Is it on the back?

Haven't received or requested. Will they be going through and shipping to all or just those that request it?
Edit, went online and ordered it. Easy enough. Glad I did as the back of my card is pretty beat up

I tied ApplePay to my AMEX - they are impressed when I hold up my Apple Watch and pay.

The metal on the Amex Plat is way nicer and heavier than the Reserve card. I was just playing with them both and its crazy the difference.

You pay the fee - they reimburse the fee. To receive the statement credit, the application fee must be charged on the eligible Platinum Card.

I think my AW is platinum plastic like my lowly platinum plastic VISA card.

[oops...am I allowed to say VISA in an AMEX thread? ]

The higher cost and lower points accumulation is the main reason I went with the CSR over the Amex. With the 1.5x redemption multiplier, you're looking at effectively 4.5 points on travel purchases through CSR already. That said, the (effectively free) Costco Visa is also quite competitive for points accumulation.

The one thing about Amex that is also attractive and makes me want to get an Amex of some sort is the occasional early access to concert tickets.

This is clearly a response to the Chase Saphier Reserve card. Like mentioned earlier it had a very aggressive point system but if i remember reading a few months ago. The Reserve Card from Chase was backordered for months and applications were through the roof. With Cosco not being AMX exclusive they must be trying to regain some of their old/new clients and this being one of them.
