In August I wired full MSRP money and waited 2 months for my DSSD deep blue from a very big AD in PA. I was first on the list too. Once I had the watch in hand, so Amazed with the dial and all the different subtle blue color changes and black, as 80 % of the time the dial looks completely black.......anyway, I was hooked and well worth the wait. I own a couple Rolexs, JLC's, gold Bulgari and a Patek 5960 rose gold, black dial. The DSSD Blue is by far my favorite. So as of Sept. 2016 the watch is still available. I see several second hand for sale on the web, and grey market as well......they are all charging way above Rolex MSRP.

My wife just gifted me a DSSD D Blue for my birthday.

So, why a DeepSea with a D Blue dial. Simple, because they are gorgeous watches.

I myself is questioning how collectible DEEPSEA D-BLUE DIAL will be. It seem it is relatively easy to get one.

Ok, I'm a Rolex noob and have a better grasp of Omega stuff than Rolex. But having just traded away a DSSD I did some investigating. What it seems to me is that when Rolex first made the DSSD they thought it was a niche product. I thought it would be a limited production run from the start, which is why I picked it up when I did. Rolex may (or may not) have intended the DSSD as a limited production run but they're not stupid. If it sold better than they thought it would then of course they'd extend that production run and sell it for as long as enough customers wanted it.

Or not. This is just the sense I got from talking to some collectors and aficionados. We all know they can be wrong, so imagine how easy it is for ME to be wrong. As wise men have said, right here in this discussion, "Time Will Tell."

I think Rolex would stop the D-Blue. I think it's really just to make use of the old unsold Mark I dialed DSSD stocks

Anyone not seen one in the flesh yet they look better than any of the photos on online, and the dial gives it a little something over the normal model.

I think if the new SD cannibalizes DS sales enough, Rolex may consider stop making DS. But the question is whether Rolex willing to stop making a model that allows them to demonstrate their ability to engineer a watch that can sustain extreme depth......DS has its value from a marketing point of view.

In Geneva AD's just say that there won't be anymore new coming this year. But we all know there is this Rolex game going on all the time. Maybe they replace Deepsea with some Aluminaut/Trieste/Oceanic/Naval or so.
