I lost my Rolex 116610 @ the Masters...

Well, sort of. Long story short...

I was sitting on 14th tee box watching the 13th hole as the early groups rolled through on Saturday afternoon. There were some seats which were not being used, and as is custom at Augusta, we used them while their owners were on other parts of the course. I just completed eating a sandwich and decided to put on some sunscreen, because the sun was starting to really get hot as it was around 2 pm. As per usual, i took off my watch when i put on sunscreen and placed it between my legs in the seat.

After about 30-45 minutes my uncle and I got up out of our seats and proceeded to walk over to the 7th hole to watch the leaders come through (where we left our seats earlier in the day).

When we got to the 7th hole it hit me.....I didn't have the watch on my wrist. My heart immediately sank as i thought, OMG i've lost my watch forever. So, i made a quick u turn and started back to the 14th tee box. Anyone who's been at the Masters or any other golf tournament know it's not easy to get from place to place sometimes, due to having to wait for golfers to come through, hit shots, then allow Fans (ie, Patrons @ Augusta) through on the cross walk. All in all, it probably took me 20 minutes to get back, so i was away from the seat for close to 35-40 minutes.

It took what felt like forever to get back to the 14th tee box. As i walked up, i noticed people sitting all around where i was previously sitting and i just knew my watch was gone. As i drew closer, i realized the seats my uncle and I were sitting in still were empty, so i was feeling very hopeful.

As my luck would have it, my watch was sitting in the base of the seat, crystal downward just as i left it. I picked it up, put it on my wrist and thanked my lucky stars. I just knew the money i have earmarked for a new Daytona was going to be used to replace my 116610.

Crisis averted!

Yes...i can't believe how lucky i was. If it would have been later in the day, the area would have been filled with fans, even more so than it already was.

Phew I'm glad this story had a happy ending to it. I can't even imagine what kind of emotional roller coaster ride you went through!

Lucky you! Last summer, my wife went to a public restroom and set her $200 Tory Burch sunglasses on the counter. She remembered them after she got to the car, but they were gone in the roughly one minute before she returned! I bought her a new pair, but she learned a valuable lesson.

I don't take it off when I put sun screen. Opening the clasp makes in big enough to maneuver on my arm while I apply.

Love the story, but for humanity wish it would have been returned to lost and found or something (at the masters good chance but still)...

It helps this happened at Augusta National. Better chance of getting it back there than a lot of other places.

If it was in the same place as you left it how was it lost? "I forgot and walked off on my Rolex 116610 @ Masters" a more accurate title.

I went through a similar experience while driving from Albany to Virginia. Near the end of my destination I stopped to get gas, jumped out the car, checked the time and the watch wasnt there. The feeling of terror was real! Turns out a screw got loose (possibly enhanced by the steering wheel shaking for hours). The watch was under the car seat. Phew! Glad you got it back...

What valuable lesson did she learn? If she loses something, you will just buy her a brand new replacement?

Great that it turned out well for you!

I would like to think, hope perhaps, that with the crowd at the Masters it would have been found and turned in.

Golf is a game of honor, where players sometimes call penalties on themselves, and have in doing so forgone championships.

I was there and can speak for myself in saying that had I found a Rolex, knowing what mine mean to me, would have sought a lost and found to turn it in.

In attending a golf tournament, particularly at Augusta or other such prestigious venue, it wouldn't surprise me a bit to hear the "other" version of that story where you went to the lost and found and it was there waiting....

Happy Ending!! Glad you found it. I left mine hanging on the squat rack at the gym once. I returned a couple hours later and it was still there. Luckily it was Sunday as it is usually slow. I generally do not take it off anymore even at the gym.
