Would you think oh well it's just one of those things and drive away or would you go back into the garage ???

My answer....I would be having a difficult conversation with the staff, whilst trying to keep my cool.

I wouldn't let those scratches go either and I would be playing merry hell with them, it's a watch and they should be having less chance of causing this kind of damage. There seems to be a lot of this sort of damage being reported and caused by RSC, hardly a premium service if you ask me.

I do see your point of view, for sure... And partly that's why I posted thread.

However the only resolution at this point that they could offer would be to polish the watch, which I'm sure I could get them to do. But, as some one pointed out earlier, there's a good chance they could screw things up more (like over polish it or something).

So I think right now the best option for me is to just let it go...

Your right you are missing my point.

Rolex put themselves up there as a premium brand and imo charge a premium price for services etc. I am aware that yours was warranty work.

So am I wrong to expect that when I or you in this case get your watch back it is fair to expect that it won't be in a worse condition than when you gave it them.

I agree that all they will offer is a polish (which I wouldn't take either) but after that they will prob tell you to jog on as well.

I have read lots of these threads about damage from various RSC and honestly think it's a poor show. I have also read that their attitude after varies from apologetic to "think yourself lucky you have one of our watches and the door is behind you, goodbye"

In conclusion... the service in your case was S**t in my opinion.

I'd be pissed if I damage my watch but even more so if someone else did it and that someone was an expert that I paid and trusted to handle my watch with care. Any material item can be damaged at any time but it should be the right or privelage of the owner to cause that damage imho.

I agree with your sentiment, I think it has a lot to do with how expensive these watches have become; so some want to baby them. Their prices have jumped significantly in just a litte over a decade.

Shouldn't have happened but the remedy may be worse and whose to say they don't cause some other damage.
If it were me, I'd move on and have the watch polished at its next service.

Until they mess up
The watch even more. They obviously don't know how to handle it correctly. I would let it go. Give it a few weeks and if it still bothers you get it taken out. Will take a few minutes to correct.

It is disappointing for sure. I've been thinking about those two damn nicks more than I care to admit in the last few days that's for sure. Scratches that I put on the watch I tend to accept more easily, I think it's the fact that they put them there that bothers me. It's really not easy letting go of old OCD tendencies...

RSC Toronto's​ attitude for the most part was quite polite and apologetic about the metal shaving found on the dial. I did not notice the nicks on the lug until I got home, so was not able to address it with them on the spot. I'm sure they would have been apologetic and offered to do some kind of polish to remedy the nicks if I had brought it up.

But I just don't have the time to go thru the hassle and long drive back to downtown to get it addressed. Eventually when I get it serviced, I can opt to get it polished then...

I would take it up with the mechanic who did the damage if the management will let you speak to them. If employees could not hide behind their corporate shields and be held accountable for their work these issues would be less frequent.
I experienced the same issue with my local AD and now use a local watchmaker for my needs other than a major warranty issue.

I feel for you turbo I really do.

In answer to your question, to polish out any nick or scratch you have to take off the same thickness of metal as the scratch is deep if that makes sense or you fill the scratch back up with material to the same level as it was before.

It may show after it's been polished depending on how deep the scratch is. If you have it done I would get further advice on here and to who is a true artisan at polishing a case. Get someone who is as ham fisted as the tech who caused it and it may look horrible and make the whole thing worse.

Nice gold sub! I actually do wear my watch, been wearing it almost daily for close to two years now. Taken it on every vacation, to the beach, swam with it, everything.

And I have not had any nicks that deep in all that time. Hairline scratches everywhere yes, but no nicks as deep as the two put there by the RSC.

On that note, guys, I am going to pay the RSC another visit to show them the lug and see what my options are. I'll post back what they say here.

I've been in your shoes OP. Sorry to hear that this happened. I say let it go. It could come back with other issues and you'll be perpetually chasing issues. RSC has had more and more of these examples cropping up recently. I've dealt with both NYC and Dallas RSC, and while Dallas is a drastic improvement over NYC, both have QC issues.

The upside is that it's on one of the north lugs so it really shouldn't make too much eye contact with you when looking at your watch on your wrist. Enjoy the watch and use this as an opportunity to start wearing it like the robust piece that it is. When you do finally get it serviced and polished years from now you'll get a fresh shaken etch-a-sketch and you can start fresh.
