Genuine Warranty papers

There are always about a half-dozen ads on eBay for Rolex warranty papers, they tend to list for 500-700 dollars. My question: Why would someone want the warranty paper for someone else's watch, and further why would they be willing to spend 700 dollars for them.

Makes no sense to put an expired piece of paper to a watch that doesn't have matching serials.

Then there's some who seem to think, incorrectly, it makes their watch 'complete'!?!

i also don't understand those sellers that say they misplaced or lost the papers. How does that happen when it impacts the resale value?

Most people don't care about watches...until they want to sell it!

There's an old-style warranty with a blank serial number space on eBay right now with 36 bids and the price at 1275. I'm sure they're just warranty collectors though, not counterfeit watch sellers. That would be wrong.

yeah ive never understood the concept of having a set of papers that dont match the serial on the watch??? Its like putting someone elses license plates on your car to sell it.... it just doesnt work.... beats me
Furthermore why would someone collect papers for a watch they dont have? That stumps me too....
All i can see is people wanting to commit some form of fraud

Do buyers of these papers ever attempt to make fraudulent insurance loss/theft claims? Could that be the motivation for paying so much?

There is a old saying a fool and his money are soon gone,what are these so called papers, well in most case a single bit of paper which is in most cases is a outdated warranty.And with today's technology these items including the plastic card are far easier to fake than the watch.So if buying from any non reliable source never rely on these bits of paper/plastic to prove authenticity of any watch.Today thanks to the internet these bits of paper,boxes bits of plastic are now deemed by some to be more important than the watch.And some unscrupulous sellers try and cobble together the so called full set as the internet has deemed this will make the item more valuable.Myself always buy condition of watch then the price and if any service history as for the rest of the packaging I would never pay extra for a outdated warranty

I must admit I have bought a few bits here and there to put with my watch.. things like document wallet, calendar and booklets, hang tags etc that are related and aged around the same time. Not to deceive or increase value as I'm not selling.. just to make the empty box a little more interesting. Some of the prices I've seen are ridiculous though.

Some people are unaware that Rolex watches have unique serial numbers as well.

Old blanks are usually used for evil purposes as some older papers were handwritten, add them to some watches and they add $$$$$

This is why there is such a flourishing trade in fake papers.

People want the "full set" and will pay for the privilege.

Naughty printer bangs out very good copies at about £20 ($15) that look identical to original papers.

Mug punter buys it at an inflated price but gets his money back when he sells it to some other poor unsuspecting mug who thinks it is a "full set".

But the naughty printer is making enough money to buy dozens of nice new Rolexes.
