How Many of You Have Turned Down the DaytonaC

I figured give an opposing view on the coveted Daytona for a change. I bought a white faced one in 2006 so me thinks it is a 5 digit model. I don't know the models like TRF members do. The whole experience of getting that call was a rush I will admit. I also recall the AD had the dreaded price increase within the last 72 hours so I got stuck paying the higher but hey I got one.

Now that the ceramic version is out and it is white hot in terms of availability are there some of you out there that had the little plastic coffin in your hand and just said "Meh" not for me and declined? I actually did recently. I have a wonderful relationship with the small family owned AD here and they got a black one a while back and were holding it for someone they contacted but the person never called so they said you can have it if you want. It's beautiful no question but I think going thru the whole thing all over just wasn't as big a deal. Anyone else agree?

I had the choice between ceramic and NOS previous at a good discount. I went with the older one and I'm glad I did.

Assuming your Daytona wasn't old stock, anything bought in 2006 would be a six digit. Are the sub dials silver? If so, it's a six.

It's a Z series. Yea I think it's a 116520. Ok makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

I did turn down a black one from my AD only bc I already own a white one and couldn't justify both. As far as the 520 over the 500, NOT a chance!!!

Why wouldn't you just buy it at $12K and turn around and sell it here for $18K if you didn't want/like it? From the looks of how many are available on the secondary market, that's what the next guy's gonna do anyway if you turn it down.

I did. Sold to a fellow member at MSRP. Call this blasphemy but while the watch was good, it did not live up to its hype in my opinion.

I wouldn't turn down one to try it for what would ultimately be no cost, however, I did come around on the older steel and ended up buying a Zenith recently. Never was a Daytona fan personally but I'm sure the hype of the ceramic had an impact.

I'm on list for a white dial and asked by the AD if I might also consider the black dial. He called me while he was out of state on vacation. How nice is that.
A black dial was available for me. Went in, put it on and was enchanted for a few minutes. Going back to the adedge to buy what moves you, I turned it down to wait for a white dial.

Call me cynical........... but, going with the approx figures above, $12k new but can sell for $18k

I wonder how many daytonas get sold to an AD's 'mate' and then onto the resellers market ?!

There's one a couple of blocks from me right now at about $17,000 USD. I'm certainly not gonna go get it at that price.

Without any shadow of doubt, the Daytona C looks fantastic in a photograph and due to its scarcity, I suspect most have seen pic which they have drooled over and have never seen the thing in the flesh.

I saw the real thing a few weeks ago at some ludicrously inflated price in a vintage watch shop in the Burlington Arcade in London. It was next to a load of other Daytonas, so I had the rare opportunity to compare the C model with previous ones.

The simple truth is that the 116520 is a more classy model and I am convinced that as time passes and more of us actually get to see the C model, the current level of hysteria will subside.

I have a 16520 which I really like, I certainly would buy a 116520 which I also like but I would stay away from the C model, it is overhyped and in reality will disappoint a lot of people.

Just my humble thoughts.

I turned down a black Daytona C last summer. I really wanted to love the watch, but when I slipped it on my wrist, it did nothing for me.

It's one of those watches that to me, looks awesome in pictures, but doesn't sing to me in real life.

Incidentally I had the same experience with the BLNR except I actually bought it and wore it sparingly before finally selling it a few weeks ago. Lesson learned

I could have been number 2 on my AD list but after some reflection I took my name off the list. I have owned several YG Daytona's, several SS Daytona's of the previous generation and a RG Daytona. Each time I moved it along as the size is small for my wrists. Now the new Sea-Dweller 43 might be a different subject but will have to see it in person.

There was at least 3 in a grey dealers shop window in Manchester about a month ago along with some BLNR and many other SS sports models. Strangely there was no prices on these so I declined.
Can't be bothered with paying inflated prices nor waiting for years, so looks like time to find a different model to spend my hard earns pennies on.

Why do you think some of us get offered these watches without spending millions of dollars at the AD, when others don't? Because we don't do that sort of stuff.

I absolutely love my BLNR but if I had the opportunity to buy a white Dial DaytonaC I would JUMP on it and sell the BLNR hands down.
So thank you to those that are passing up on MSRP for others to have a chance!

I walked by an AD window a few years ago and saw a SS Daytona just sitting there. I went inside and asked to see it. It was $9,750 (or so) at the time, and they were even willing to put it aside for me for a week to think about it. I thought and thought and then decided not to get it! I'm sort of regretting it, but oh well!

I've had the chance to try the black dial on and it was beautiful but I think the 116520 is equally as stunning. I would never pay a premium to have it. That being said I passed on it. I fell in love with the TT Daytona white dial with the updated bezel instead haha (and I know the vast majority dislike TTs but I like it on the Daytona :)).

but quickly tire and sell them. The previous steel versions are not easy to read. The dials for the gold models have more legibility and contrast on the counters. I frankly do not like screw down pushers. A hassle to take the watch off to unwind the screw to use and then put the watch back on. If you don't take the watch off and unwind you are applying lateral pressure which will overtime damage the screw pusher.

I much prefer a Sub which can be used to time things with a easier to use bezel where seconds accuracy is no big deal, which is usually the case.

If Rolex did not limit allocation so harshly of the steel models they would be no big deal. All the ADs seem to have the gold/steel Daytona's in the case which are not big sellers.
