Dropped my Rolex and a strange thing happened...
Hello! I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I finally bought my first Rolex (a pre-owned 14060m) and I love it! Just a week after ownership, I accidentally dropped the watch at about hip height onto tile floors. Nothing aesthetically seems to have been damaged. However, now the watch is running more accurately than before. Before the drop, it was running at +3 seconds a day. After the drop, it has been damn near perfect over the last 24 hours. Should I be concerned or consider myself fortunate?

It's a well known fact that every six month or so you should throw your watch on the floor for regulation purposes.

Nothing good comes from dropping a watch on a tile floor!
Ignorance is bliss. |

My philosophy is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." You can take that for what it's worth. Maybe consider yourself lucky or maybe Rolexes are tougher than they look.

Watch it carefully over the next few weeks. It could have issues unseen as of yet.

This is so funny.
Man, forget about accuracy. You are so lucky you did not end up with a broken glass, scratched dial and hands and in need of a service.......

Will any type of floor do the job? I've dropped mine on asphalt and onto a marble table top but it didn't seem to make a difference... other than the marks on the case.

You could start a mail order business based on dropping watches to regulate them ?
Then hire a lawyer :) |

I have read stories of people dropping the watch and it moves the micrometric regulator (I believe that's the name, but I'm pretty sure I got it wrong) a tad one way or the other. I've seen people say it either slowed down or sped up their watches. That being said there is no real way to know if you damaged something or not other than taking it to a watchmaker. I would just keep an eye on it like others said, and then go from there

Thank you everybody for the warm welcome and for your insightful thoughts on the subject. I will keep checking on it the next couple of weeks. So far so good. The watch has only gained 1 second in the last 48 hours. Cheers!
