Just got my 5513 back from being serviced/overhauled - pics

Sent my 5513 to RSC Dallas. They insisted that I allow them to replace all three hands. I declined.

I then took my watch to Charles L. Smith Company in Mocksville NC. I had a full service done, which included a new barrel, spring, crown, tube, staff, seals, crystal and a light polish (bordering on no polish at my request).

Although the watch is not chronometer certified, it is now running +1 seconds in the overnight face up position and spot on when I wear it. I think it looks great. But then again, I am biased.

I am very happy my watch is back. And I will definitely use Charles again.

Here are some picks of the watch and the old parts it came back with. Charles put the old parts in the empty packaging for the new parts.

And any spots on the dial or crystal are camera lens dust or reflections. It is spotless.

Looks fantastic, great call to skip RSC and go to an independent. Why did they insist on replacing the hands? They look spotless to me as it is.

I posted on this last week in this section. If you look close, there are small surface cracks or crazing. I decided to live with it and not have the lume stabilized.

Looks great. I wish I had not sent my 1016 back to Rolex for service, they have always done it every 5 /6 years since 1981. I thought I was doing the right thing, but I realise now, they have over polished it, changed things unnecessarily. I wish I had joined the forum earlier,as I used to look forward to it coming back from service so sparkling and looking like new, now I know the error of my ways.

Well you really have to look close to see the crazing. Good call to pass and keep those hands, looks great!

Looks like great job! Let's just hope that independents will still be able to get parts from Rolex in years to come.

Best course to take, IMO - those hands will likely outlast you!

Great to know there is someone doing quality work in NC. Eventually, I am going to need service and I would prefer to support an independent.

Agree. And Charles is old school and pleasant to work with. Getting hard to find that locally.
