Got a Submariner today but have question.

Hi, all.

Got my second Rolex today and got some question and I got to here so that I can hopefully get an answer.

My first one was about 15 years ago and didn't know anything about it until today and got wondered as I was talking to sales rep from the shop today.

My wrist is thin so that I had to remove one link from the band to adjust the size but they had one side 7 and other side 4. They say it was to keep the face on top of the wrist and won't slide to the left on my left wrist. I've uploaded the pix. Is that true? I wasn't sure if I make it even, would that make that much difference?

Also my crown position.
My first Rolex crown position is at 12 o'clock so I thought every Rolex had that. However my Submariner crown is sitting at 9 o'clock, so I searched and some say 3 o'clock, so says random so wanted to get a solid answer.

What to you think?

My links are configured exactly like that on my Exp 2 and Blnr. Perfect fit for me.
I can't say about the crown though, sorry.

Crown rests in a different position with each watch, some line up to 12 some don't, not a big deal. I prefer my bracelets to be lopsided for the reasons your ad mentioned. Congrats on the wonderful new watch! I love my sub!

From my understanding the crown position when tightened down is completely random. I have one that is straight crown up at 12 (16613) and one that is crown up pointed at 10:00 (16623). Congrats on the new watch, wear it and enjoy it.

As far as the bracelet goes, a little lopsided can be helpful for the exact reason the dealer stated. To me that would be a little too extreme and I'd probably like 5/6 better than 4/7 but it really depends on your wrist geometry and how the clasp sits on the underside. I have a large wrist and mine is set to 5/7 but ideally it'll be 5.5/6....just can't get the 6 o'clock side clasp screw loose myself (tighter than other links) so will wait until I can get back to the dealer for that. Tried 6/6 but that ended up not being as good as 5/7 for me as it did let the watch roll to the outside of my wrist too much. .

Crown position is totally random. Nice when they line up at 12, but just luck of the draw. My new one is at about 1 o'clock which is pretty nice but don't really care too much about that. I've seen them at every angle possible while looking at ADs.

As to the bracelet mine is also "lopsided" if held like yours, what's important is that the watch fits correctly and that your clasp is reasonably centered on your wrist.
Crown location upon tightening is totally random, mine points to about 4 o'clock.

My watches are configured the same way - with more links on the 12 o'clock side. For my wrist, such a configuration does indeed keep the watch sitting in the best position.

Also, my crowns point in a multitude of directions. Every once in a while you find one that lines up vertically - my Tudor Prince Date does so. All of my Rolexes, however, do not.

I have a 6.75" wrist and I have mine configured at 4/5. This gives me plenty of play in the glidelock and I haven't had any issues with lopsidedness. If your configuration doesn't bother you, then wear it as is. Otherwise it's an easy fix for the AD to adjust it again for you.

Also, note the crown. Mine is pointed at 2 o'clock and it doesn't bother me.

The crown lining at 12 is a myth. I have four and none on the crowns line up at 12!!

When you wear the watch is the face centered on top of your wrist and the clasp centered on bottom? If so, then you are good. Crowns end up in any position and it's normal.

Jeweler also adjusted like yours for $20, but I didn't like the way it looked so I used my Panerai screwdriver and took off a link from each side which I greatly prefer. Sits fine and now I know how easy it is to swap links on a Rolex.

totally normal on both accounts. links are fine ; crown position when screwed fully in is random.

some have found it useful to put a 1/2 link in on the "6 oclock" side and either remove one from the 12 oclock side or simply adjust the glidelock. fwiw.

The only Rolex with crown that will always be perfectly upright is the Skydweller.

The crown emblem mainly lines upright in the Rolex brochures, thats if its supposed to line upright with anything. Unless you have one of the many alignment point Rolex syndromes of today's Rolex owner it's not a problem and quite normal.

This - I also have similar small wrist and a 4 at 6 and and a 5 at 12 position gives me perfect fit with glidelock.
I even bought the Everest Band in this configure and it fits perfect as well.

I have the same question in the crown position. Finally my conclusion is that those olden Rolex were produced and the crown were adjusted to be seated upright.

Perhaps the mass production these days do not have the resources to adjust thd drown position before it leaves the factory

I have a large wrist and played a bit with the links on my 16700 to get it to wear correctly without the face sliding away to the outside of my wrist, I have 5 and 9 links.
Also my crown faces to 5 o'clock so completely random as others have mentioned, If they point to 12 you are lucky !

Your crown position is completely normal as it varies by watch and can basically fall in the range of any one of the 360 degrees in rotation.

I can't say for sure about the links, but seems like a bigger variation between 6 and 12 sides. I'd have your AD show you and allow you to try a few variations of the links before ultimately deciding your preference. Your preference should be your preference, not your AD's so I say try some variations see what works

I am not gonna worry about crown position anymore from reading replies and other threads. What do you know? I only had one Rolex before and it sits 12 o'clock.

I am gonna go back the the dealer and have them adjust to 5/6 and try it or 5/5 and use glide lock. My other one has 5/5.

I have seen crowns pointing in every single direction. If one is OCD about having all of their watches at 12 like in the catalogs then you have to go on a hunt for one. They are out there. I have seen examples of most models. You would have to broader your search to include pre-owned watches since it is as random as the serials. It must be time consuming to get each one perfect hence why they only bother on a premium watch like the Sky Dweller. They don't even bother on the Day Dates.

todesto, you didn't mention whether it was comfortable and sitting correctly or not?

My AD set mine up 4/5.5 but for whatever reason, it wasn't comfortable against the bone on my wrist. I had them move the half link to the 6 o'clock side so it's now 4.5 and 5 and it sits perfectly. So more links at 12 works for most people, but not everyone. Mine is now pretty even.

Did they remove just the half link from yours?

The lopsided bracelet is fine. If it fits your wrist well and sits on the top of your wrist, as it should, then I wouldn't worry. As for the crown, not many Rolexes have the crown pointed up at 12 o'clock. It's completely random and nothing to worry about. Don't over tighten the crown to achieve a certain position, just finger tight is perfect.
