Which AD considered "most prestigious"

Hi Guys,

For me personally I think the most prestigious place to shop is the place you feel most comfortable shopping at. I am a big fan of trusted sellers here on TRF. However, is there any more prestige factor buying at let's say Rolex on 5th Ave in Manhattan or at the Wynn Rolex in Las Vegas than say your standard dealership or from a TS? Would these warranty cards increase the resale value of the watch in years to come or is there no significance to this? I personally do not think there is, however I still want to consult with my fellow TRFers and see what you guys have to say.

Thanks!

Jon

It's irrelevant iMHO.

The watches are all made in the same place. That's what matters.

Probably doesn't affect value, but it does add to the story of that specific timepiece. And as they say Rolex doesn't just tell time, it tells history! Been to the 5th avenue AD and it was amazing, still need to check out the Wynn location

I think it would make almost zero difference in the secondary market having a specific AD's name on the warranty card. Country of origin may have some impact to some buyers.

Find the right AD and you don't have to. I was about to go trusted seller when I stopped into an AD that gave me a deal that, after tax, equaled the trusted sellers.

After shopping 3 ADs within a reasonable drive, two wouldn't budge on price. The third, where I ended up buying, was the nicest of the three overall and gave me a great price on a SS sports model. That's all I need and I'm thrilled with my AD experience.

I don't think any are more prestigious necessarily, but some are definitely better than others.

Why would any warranty card give any prestige factor no matter where it was bought once any warranty has expired its just a bit of plastic.A Rolex is just a Rolex no matter where its bought as all genuine ones come from the same factory in Switzerland.

IMHO I believe a Rolex is a Rolex no matter what AD is stamped on your warranty card.

I would say Chrono Time in Geneva. World's only AD owned 100% by Rolex.

Definitely not Harrods. I know we are in times of austerity, but the watch department is always faily empty. The salespeople don't really engage, except for the chap at A Lange &
Sohne.
153 Regent Street (Watches of Switzerland) is superb. Enjoyed shot cocktails there yesterday while viewing the new Rolex range.
If you've got a good dealership, you're fortunate. If not, try them out. Any bad feedback - ping me a private message.
Regards

Harrods & Selfridges basically serve foriegners from China & Middle East.

The staff are nice but its so frantic that everything seems like in a rush.

The watches of Switzerland & Mappin Web are more chilled, offer drinks

I would think that it would matter a little if buying a high dollar vintage piece.

If the piece came from, say, Tiffany & Co. or Van Cleef & Arpels, and you had the paperwork to prove it, I think it would raise the value a smidge. Imho

If I go the AD route, and I will on occasion. It is about comfort and honesty from the sales person. As a WIS I will walk in a second when we start some BS about information the sales person does not know and should just say so. It will be indicative of the deal if it gets that far.

All the ADs with 'prestige' also tend to be inflexible with pricing.
