3120 Calibre Rotor Change

Hi Guys,

So I've noticed a change in the rotor on the 3120 calibre on the current models. It appears that AP have reduced the amount of material/gold being used by cutting away at the underside. You can make out the profile from the two pictures below. The first picture is the older version and the second picture is the newer version.

When I first noticed this 'new' rotor on my watch I was disappointed, since I like the profile and fullness of the old rotor. I know you can't really see it but from all the pictures I saw on the internet and pinterest the images were of the old rotor which just looked nice since its profile followed that of the movement beneath (3rd pic). So prices go up and they use less gold to save more, which is the only reason I can see. Would there be any other benefit for the new style of rotor? Less resistance?

Anyway, it's just an observation I noticed and I didn't find any info on the forum or internet so thought I'd see if any of you guys had noticed.

Regards
M.

I can kind of see it but it is not something I would fret about personally. It could have been done to increase winding efficiency by placing more weight towards the end of the rotor.
