The coastal areas around San Diego (La Jolla, Torrey Pines et al) are absolutely awesome. Years ago when I used to head over to the Sorrento Valley for business, I was always enthralled by the overall beauty of this region. It kind of reminded me of the vibes one gets in Carmel and the 17 Mile Drive/Del Norte Forest around the Monterey peninsula.

Why is it that nobody is in the ocean? Still too cold there?
Beautiful place.
While we were racing Laguna Seca I spent some time at the beach adjacent to the Monterrey Pier. That was also nice area.

Like so many beautiful places in California the crowds detract from an otherwise peaceful setting. My daughter worked at the La Valencia hotel there is La Jolla while in UCSD so we visited the place often. Great bar and OK Sunday brunch. Try George's just up the street for some great dining.
