TRF Revolution! A New Way of Doing Business...
Good Evening All,
I was doing a lot of thinking regarding the forum here. It's as if we're all neighbors here looking out for one another, providing insight, advice, opinions, and support for our love of Rolex. So then it struck me! Why don't established members band together to form a buying group and buy pieces together from trusted sellers. Imagine 5 members all interested in purchasing a submariner contacting a trusted seller and purchasing 5 from his inventory together at a time. Imagine the discount and the service said members would receive. The members win by receiving a bulk price and the seller wins by turning over many watches in one transaction. This is a strategy used by many small business owners who band together to purchase high priced items at a competitive price, especially in the automotive industry. Who would be open to this? Why or why not? |

Who says sellers will discount bulk purchases? Maybe an AD.

I don't think trusted sellers inventory works like this, good idea though, and it has been used successfully on numerous forums ( think cars for one for after market parts).

Good idea but the seller has to give a discount first.

Spent 50 years in the automobile business. If you're a new car dealer, whether you buy 1 car or 5000 cars, the wholesale price is the same. Federal law prevents special pricing treatment. There are no "secret discounts" on purchase volume. It's nothing but an urban legend. However, a dealer can offer a discount from list price based on volume purchases.

Zero incentive for the original seller to participate in this scheme. He would essentially be creating a second tier of "trusted sellers", where eventually somebody would look to make a dime. And why shouldn't he get that dime?
If I'm the trusted original seller, I'm simply devaluing my status as a trust seller. And I'd bet that many of those trusted sellers sell a lot more quantity of a given watch than you'd be able to pool together. So why would I want one sale for five items vs. five sales for one item each where I could presumably make more cash? Everybody like the idea of buying consortiums - except, often, the seller. Now I suppose if you knew five guys that were going to buy a particular item, and you knew a seller that had five items in stock, it wouldn't hurt to make him an offer. But what happens when one of your buyers flakes out? Are you gonna still buy five watches?

Why don't you contact a few sellers and report back what you learn?

As stated above, might work with AD but doubtful with trusted sellers. I do not think they are dealing with the same margins as ADs. And what is their incentive if they are selling to the members anyway? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Agreed. Plus, not only do you have to trust the seller, but have 5 trusted buyers to agree. Sounds like a committee to me.
