To lume, or not to lume: that is the question.
I feel like a giddy school boy after scoring this 16750 at a local auction today. It's in dire need of a service and I'd like to get the group's thoughts on whether or not to replace the GMT hand as it's missing the lume plot.
What instructions, if any, should I provide when getting the service to ensure I'm not negatively impacting the value? (polish, lume, etc.) I assume it's possible to replace just the GMT hand, but maybe I'm wrong. My main concerns are: 1) color matching the other hands; and 2) any negative impact on the value of the piece. Thanks in advance for any guidance! P.S. Sorry for the sideways pics, rotating before uploading didn't fix |

congrats! looks like a nice honest example.
i purchased a 16750 recently that looks very similar to yours except with the matte dial. it is actually with la watchworks right now for service. main thing with service is to send it to a watchmaker who is knowledgable and used to working with vintage rolexes. they can walk you through what you should do. personal opinion-- definitely replace the GMT hand with an original tritium one. color match as best you can. you can probably source one fairly easily off eBay, here, etc. or your watchmaker may be able to source. enjoy it in good health! |

Were you able to get it at a reasonable price?
