The Oyster case

After having owned an 80s model Airking briefly, I finally acquired what will be my every day, all the time watch-looks a Y serial Explorer II polar. It absolutely epitomizes the rugged, all-business look that I always associated withRolex. I wanted something that evoked the style that you see from those pictures of McQueen with his sub or Brando with his no-bezel GMT. A lot of this style comes from the classic sport Oyster case. It gracefully transitions to the bracelet and allows most people to look as if they are wearing the watch, and not the other way around. For most of those posting the super case watches they often look like they're wearing an over-sized watch. Does anyone think Rolex will ever return to the more universally wearable-and attractive-design of the classic oyster case with its beautiful camfors?

Lots agree with you, me included. The Seadweller cases are a kind of halfway house and a great improvement over the clumsy inelegance of the "supercase".

I recently acquired a new OP 39, shown below next to a 16610. This has the same classic Rolex look you are describing, with elegantly tapering lugs, and it's easily my favourite Rolex in current production.

The Daytona isn't too bad, but sadly it has sprouted a ceramic bezel, which isn't ideal IMO, but people seem to be going wild over it nonetheless.

Most of the 5 digit references (and older) probably fit that criteria

I don't mind the super case at all, love my 114060, but I agree that the 39mm OP/EXPI case does a great job of giving that vintage Oyster case vibe.

I agree with you. The proportions of the 5 digit Rolexes were spot on in my opinion. One thing that throw off the look of the 6 digit watches is that they increased the size of the case but not the size of the bracelet.

The Polar Explorer II is a great watch and I want one badly, 42mm is too big for me, and the 40mm is my goal as is your Y. congratulations as they say around here, pictures or it didn't happen. Please post.
