How did you buy your Daytona?

Just wanting to see how many Daytona owners had the patience to buy from an AD rather than the Flippers/GM.

If you are a true enthusiast don't buy your Daytona from a flipper because they will just turn around and buy another Daytona to flip. By repeating this process I can't help but think flippers are cheapening the image of the Daytona.

I'm all for AD's doing mandatory engravings/holding warranty in their possession to stop this flipping madness!

Was offered both White / Black dial... and took them both. Did not have to wait.

I don't think I'd have the patience to wait as long as some people have for it.

I walked in to an AD I have never been to before and asked to see a Milgauss, the sales person told me he had just sold one and asked if I was interested in anything else. I asked if he had a SS-Daytona and he went to the safe and pulled out two of them, a black one and a white one. I bought the the black one on the spot for MSRP and he shipped it to me for free to my home in another state so no tax added on.

Um it's called a free market for a reason and I'd gladly suggest to any AD that wanted to hold the paper or mandtory engrave my watch what they could do with it.

I would also like to point out that rolex could solve this problem by making more of the darn things... I am sure this is within their power. Furthermore doing so would end the games AD's play with the SS daytona which to me DOES cheapen rolex to used car salesmen like tactics in many cases.

I also fail to see how flipping the watch cheapens it.... it is a fine watch and the watch does not care how many times it is sold.

But I suspect instead rolex is going to price the thing here in a few short years to the point that supply will meet demand due to the price.

Which is better? Buying a REAL Daytona from a flipper or buying a FAKE Daytona...

I was lucky. A member from here that I helped get a GMT IIC from a local dealer in my neck of the woods told me about it. I called the guy that I bought my GMT from and landed it!!!!! I was going to flip it I never really liked them from the pictures I have seen. I could not do it after I had it on my wrist.

The premium over MRSP in Singapore is almost 50% which I was not prepared to pay, so with the aid of a friend living in Switzerland, I put my name on a waiting list with a Swiss retailer back in 2002. It finally arrived last August - a wait of around 5 years. It was worth the wait.

I had 3 pre-owned SS Daytonas at various times. I paid a premium on all of them. Luckily I did not lose much money when I sold them. I made a nice profit on the last one due to the price increase form $7,900 to $9,200. In May, I got the call from a local AD that I never did business with for one. I naturally jumped all over it.

Amazing- but you are very very greedy- all i want is one, which is virtually impossible for me in the UK

A serious question, do you wear them all or just one black and one white?

5 Daytona's

where did you purchase your Daytona?

I bought mine from my AD pre-owned for substantially less than list.

If Rolex would just raise the MSRP to the GM prices, this wouldn't be an issue...lol.

Since you asked...here is my Daytona story.

Losing hope from ADs, last October I drove 600 miles south of Dallas to buy a F series blk dial daytona from a private owner (not flipper). Exactly 2 wks later my AD called, that was how I now own a Z blk dial.

Well, same thing go for 2008, waited until October unsure when the call will come, I traveled another 600 miles south of Dallas this time to purchase a white dial M series...from a doctor (not flipper).

I am in love with my latest acquisition. It is beautiful.

I have a hundred dollars saying the "call" will come in next couple weeks...lol!

Bought mine using good ole cash.

On a serious note I called a local AD and he happened to have a white dial S/S Daytona that was being held for a customer, it was turned down and low and behold I received the "phone call".

Without hesitation, I picked it up several hours later.

Excellent! Thanks Deepsea, now I can tell my story again! I know you guys love hearing this and seeing that picture of me... remember, 8 1/2 X 10 glossies are available to put on your wall..... OK, on to my story.

I went to my AD where I had bought a couple GMTs over the years and introduced myself to the manager, (who just happened to be a beautiful young woman!). I told her she was going to get me a SS Daytona, white face. After she got up from the floor from laughing so hard I said: "No Really, you are." At which point she had to be revived by paramedics from laughing convulsions.

The next day, I was in her store with a huge box of her favorite candy. The following week I brought in Starbucks, the week after that bagels, every once in a while her favorite candy again... you get the picture. She was a VERY nice lady and kept telling me to stop, but I kept at it for about 6 months. On February 1st, (at 1:30 PM to be precise)... she called. I had one waiting for me! I showered, put on a suit and tie, and went to pick up my new Daytona.

So, since you all love it so much! Here is the pic again!

I understand you frustration Vet, and I asked my AD about this (low number of available SS). They said it was simple economics, Rolex makes a much greater margin on the TT and Golds, therefore they devote more resources to those models. I'm not saying I like it, but it makes sense.

True; however from where I sit rolex has never gotten production on the Daytona up to where it should be.

Though a gold or TT Daytona is still easier to find than the SS they are not in every AD's case the way say the Sub date is. Why not? I'm sure rolex would sell more of them if they were out there.

I think the question was why post a picture of a crappy fake Daytona in your signature?

AD only. No GM or flippers or premium.

Got it from a reputable AD after a 1 year wait. Warranty and watch registered to me. Guaranteed genuine. Paid list, no premium, free shipping out of state, free Wolf winder as gift. Only way to go.

Avoid risk of fakes. Avoid premiums. Get the watch with YOUR name registered to it.

I agree with you, I don't like the way they seem to manipulate the availability either.
