New GMT Master II Owner - A Few Questions
Man, I hate posts like this! Oh well, here goes...the questions relate to a D-serial GMT Master ll.
1. I'm used to uni-directional dive watch bezels. Is the bezel on the GMT Master bi-directional? 2. I've read that the 12-hour hand is bi-directional and that you can advance and retard the date going either way. That is so counter-intuitive that I'd really love someone to say "yes, I do that all the time and I didn't break my GMT Master." This was purchased used yesterday - it's a Coke bezel that appears to have never been worn by the first owner. So far, I'm really enjoying the watch. Thanks for your input.

Thanks all. I agonized a bit over Coke, Pepsi or all-black. In theory, I wanted the Pepsi for several different reasons, but it really felt a little loud. I like the two-color bezel as an easy indicator (roughly speaking) of day/night in the alternative time zone, so went with the Coke version. Great watch...have been eyeing this one since 1972 or so...some of us move very slowly. ;)

The date/time can go backwards because if you travel east over the Pacific and cross the IDL, you have to push the date back!

The cyclops is taking some getting used to. The dealer quoted me a very reasonable figure for replacing the crystal, but I'm thinking I should give it a very long try before I do that.
