Icon20 Overwinding when changing the date on my Datejust

Hi
Just wondered if someone could clarify this for me? I went to change the date on Datejust a few days ago and I had a few problems as my husband normally does it for me. I unscrewed the crown and at what I thought was the first click I wound the watch and nothing happened. I tried this a few times before realising that the crown actually pops out completely and it's very easy to realise when to change the date.

I am now worried that I have overwound, or caused damage to the watch (although it is working just fine.) I've looked on the internet and eveything I find says you cannot over wind a Rolex. Could someone confirm this please?

Many thanks

Yes automatic watches have a built in clutch mechanism to stop watch from over winding.Just think of the watch on your wrist with each movement of your arm/wrist the winding pendulum swings back and throw to wind watch. But when watch is fully wound the slipping clutch prevents from winding any further. Its the same if you manual wind once mainspring has reached its maximum power reserve the slipping clutch steps in so you could wind 60 or 70 crown turns without any harm whatsoever.A automatic watch in only a manual wind watch with a automatic mechanism fitted.

Great, thank you for putting my mind at rest. I'll be more patient the next time I have to adjust it anyway!
