Interesting Wine Happenings at Dinner Tonight with Rebel Daughter

Went out to shopping at a nice outdoor mall in Summerlin, NV as she moving back home after 6 years at school in California and needs clothes and things for when she gets here and we were hungry too.

We went here:

^^Nice table tops I thought^^

It's wine bar and resturant and also retail wine and you can take it to go or have it with dinner, so we walk to the table and the wine are in their original wooden box and I saw some Faust 2014 and thought hummm..

Looking at the menu I saw no Faust by the bottle but they had it by glass though. That's strange. The by the glass price was ridiculous as usual.

Was wearing this by the way

I ask the waiter why not a bottle but had by the glass, he got this weird look and said good question. I ask him how much by the bottle, he thought for a moment and said 65.00!? I know it's 45-55 at the liquor store so I said sold before he said anything else. And by the way it's 25.00 per glass in the restaurant.

He brings it over and I just tell him to pour, no tasting drama stuff. So he pours and leaves and Daughter and I cheer each other and she took her first gulp, she's a tom boy, so she just dives right into things and after a few minutes she goes--

Dad, this wine is nothing like your Insignia, I go yes, your right it's good but different but very young. She says it's kinda tight, not much fruit or other particular flavorful tastes. Correct she was. I said what do you wanna do about it ? She calls the waiter over and ask for a decanter, I lol after he went to get it. He brought it back and she did this in a packed resturant

I just laughed again, and about 15 minutes later and huge difference and she says that's better. Very proud of her knowing her wine taste is getting better except for dumping her wine in the decanter but whatever it's funny story to me

What we ate:

Steak salad for me substituted the iceberg for romaine lettuce

Daughter pretty much dove right in to filet and mashed potatoes, which she loves potatoes but won't order rib-eye or other meats cause of my grill taste. I won't cook filet, no flavor unless I put Maytag Blue Cheese on them but they are shut down due to some bacteria issues again so can't find it anywhere.

Raspberry sorbet we split

Moral of the story: she learnt something at college

Fun times!

That price for the Faust was basically retail plus a reasonable corkage fee. Smart move.

Looks very delicious (and bloody expensive), very cool that your daughter appreciates fine wine as well

What a great story. It made me smile at stupid am when I was trying to convince my 8 month old to go to sleep. Your daughter sounds like she has a great combination of sophisticated tastes and a desire not to let a drop go to waste (... after all, there are sober Scotsmen that would appreciate that!). Hope you had a great dinner

James, as much as we love watches I think 8 months may be slightly too young to try to get him into TRF!!!!

Says the man who published a picture of his Newborn wearing a datejust!

You're right. Finlay's a bit too young to appreciate the finer details but he appears captivated by them none the less (meanwhile TRF was helping me tune out the screaming)

You have my complete sympathy! Seb was a terrible sleeper for 6 months but thankfully sleep training did the trick for us. I'm sure we had a book to guide us through it. Let me know if you want the name of it.

Hope you and the family are all well

Looks like you all had a great time. It's nice to see she has learned from her father!

I need to look into to trying Faust for myself.

The name of the book would be brilliant, thanks.

$65 for Faust is a great deal, it's usually $100-$110.

Even better that your daughter knows so much about wine.

When I was barely drinking age, I was at a business dinner at a Morton's and we had a Magnum of something, it was probably about $300. My boss ordered a second bottle and made me do the tasting. I felt something wasn't right, so they called the manager over and he tasted and agreed. I was pretty impressed with myself over that one.

Very nice, my 14 year old niece is the same way. It helps that she lives on a vineyard surrounded by wineries and her whole family is in the business. Her palate is so refined, its hilarious to hear her describe the nose of a wine.
