I also say W. I . S. at times, especially with folks not into watches much as it's easier to establish the acronym.

To me a self-deprecating phrase to lighten the mood when people look at you as being nuts for having more than one Casino G-Shock as a "collection."

I started to enjoy watches, when I was about 10 yrs old. When I use to look at all the racing drivers wearing their chronographs. I was facinated by all the inner dials and the buttons.
How I went from those to wanting a Rolex I'm not totally sure.
But i know that Sir Jimmy Saville & Barry White has something to do with it!!

Rolex was the inspiration for me becoming a WIS after seeing one in a movie, but a Rolex was not my first watch. I actually did not attain one until much later.

I've always loved watches AND clocks, both of the mechanical type. So fascinating. My own mechanical watch journey began with a Citizen Automatic in college (1992), then the Omega in 2000, finally Rolex in 2007-2008. I suppose since I evolve higher every 8.5 years, I'll hopefully be able to join the PP family in 2016! At least 2022 for my 50th birthday!

A TV Show on the Rolex Watch industry made me connect myself the next morning on Rolex.com, then the forums, then order one, then your stuck lol

I got my first automatic watch when I was in college which was a Tag. I then went almost 10 years after getting my next watch that was a Rolex. I have now gone a little crazy with my collection and adding watches. It is a great (and expensive) hobby. So, my Rolex and this forum and other books I have bought have led me to this obsession.

After.... now I have 2 timepieces and have a 3rd on layaway. My current plan is to diversify but after recently trying on (again) the GMTIIC, I have a desire to add more Rolexes to the collection.

Before Rolex, I wore Kenneth Cole watches and I thought those were expensive and cool..... now, I have an appreciation for these wrist wonders. Still young so I got plenty of years and timepieces ahead of me!

i'm not a WIS. but i sure love watches. i remember my very first baby seiko divers watch when i was 14 years old my dad gave it as a gift to me from saudi arabia and he had the senior version. i was amazed how a watch can work without batteries. i was wearing my baby seiko two years in high school and did not take it off once after that it went missing. now that i'm 26 i gave my dad a datejust so i can ask for his full size seiko divers.

nothing makes a watch more special than a senitmental story...

Don't consider myself a WIS, but loved watches since I was 12 (5th grade) - started with the Swatch!

Rolex was always the first choice, but did not have the funds or justification to own one. So after a number of Swatches, 5 Tag Heuer watches and 15 years, finally got a Rolex and joined TRF shortly after where I learn more everyday!

Yes I bought my first good watch when I was in the 7th grade and paid it out over time. This would have been in the mid 60's. I have traded, sold and bought Rolexs from that same man and friend for over 40 years now. He long since retired and sold out his store, use to work on my Omeags, Aucctrons and various other watches. One day old age got the best of him and he sold one of my Speedmasters that he had been working on, thinking it was his. So now he is still a good friend but only a watch consultant.
And that first watch a Wyler Deep 660.
