I wonder how the parents of those children will feel about you posting their pictures on a an open forum. I for one would not be best pleased....

Those particular jpegs were sourced from an MSN image gallery so I doubt that the parents care. Chances are, they were the ones who initially posted the pics online being somewhat proud of their youngsters sporting Rolexes.

Put is it a pure bloodline? Half-bloods need not apply.

I can't conceive of any circle that would disapprove of Rolex yet not laugh a Breitling out of the room.

this is more about common sense than bloodlines or class. a 7 year old is not going to appreciate a Rolex and has a good chance of breaking or losing it

Had classmates that wore Rs when I was in school & my parents knew of some back in their time too... but that was when Rs weren't that much dearer than most other "good Swiss watch" waaaay before the Japanese started cranking affordable autos out in the 60s :)

Nobody nicked my Japanese timepieces in school :)

When you can afford to buy it for yourself.

Agreed. Unless the child has a lucrative acting career going and just happens to be a WIS at 8 years of age (or younger), again blame the parents for these questionable indulgences.

Perhaps these material extravagances are more indicative of their own superficial mentalities as you cannot ordinarily attribute such leanings to a small child.

Sorry but nobody 'pulls this off'. They just think they do while most are just smiling.

I've seen a 14 year old wearing a 16610 and his dad wearing a nautilus, if my son has a true love for watches and I had the means I'd buy him a nice sub or something like that for him to wear.

In UK, now as soon as you conceive you must put their name down on a list, it's easier to get into Eton!

I went to boarding school in New England. Almost every kid from Europe had a Rolex and just about everyone else didn't give crap what they were wearing

Renato. I have a couple of friends who went to eastern prep schools (Hotchkiss and Andover) and they have a somewhat nonchalant attitude towards things like Rolexes (even though they have been known to wear or inherit one). To them a Rolex is not that big a deal and to make an issue out of owning one is considered gauche (aka tacky/no class).

I suspect this perspective is more reflective of a 'new money' vs 'old money' mentality as new money tends to be a bit more showy while old money is often more discreet and reserved. This one guy I know drives an older Ford Taurus but owns 8 vintage-era mahogany speedboats in upstate NY (Lake Placid) in addition to a vacation home in Vail and a primary residence in CT that dates back to the colonial era. If one encountered him on the street, you'd never even imagine that the guy was wealthy, pedigreed and has spent over $75K to buy his wife a thoroughbred just for recreational riding.

So in many ways, I can picture (or imagine) Arnaud's/lapince's reference to specific 'circles' and various social protocols. It's different out here in CA as its social history only goes back to around the 1850s and about the only ones who got rich in those days were robber barons, Levi Strauss and various patent medicine hucksters who originally came from working class backgrounds.

Nowadays, most new wealth from the high-tech and entertainment/sports industries tends to manifest itself into a more 'showy' display of personal wealth. Call it California Dreamin' or perhaps an absence of tasteful restraint.

It doesn't bother me when I see kids with nice things, Rolex or otherwise. If the parents have the dough, they can buy their kids whatever they want. It's not my business.

Having said that, being given something doesn't feel nearly as good as working hard and buying it with your own money.

The bracelet on that child's Rolex was obviously 'fitted' and hopefully his parents saved the links for future growth spurts.

I agree with the above. My dad was a WIS and I was purchased a used Rolex GMT 16750 at 15 then traded it in for a Sub 16610 at 19 and then traded that one in for a TT Sub 16613LN at 21 (better put my dad kept "upgrading me"). I wore that TT Sub for over a decade through college and my first job. In all the years I wore a Rolex as a "kid" only a handful of people ever noticed and it was no big deal. It really depends on the parent and child involved....there is no "RIGHT" age.
