I find myself agreeing with so much of this thread!
I went into my AD last week thinking about an Explorer I and a Datejust wasn't on the radar at all. I already have a DJ36 (Oyster, Fluted, Blie Baton Dial) as my dress/suit watch (I rarely wear a suit now). But on seeing and trying the Datejust 41, I was blown away! The AD had a Black Baton Dial with smooth bezel on Jubilee and it was STUNNING! I so nearly pulled the trigger there and then but most of my other watches have a black dial so I hesitated. I found it a beautiful, modern and versatile looking watch (despite its design heritage). Having given it some thought, I thonk Ive decided on a Dark Rhodium Baton on Jubilee with a smooth bezel. I've convinced myself there's room for 2x Datejusts as they'd just be so different. And I echo the call for photos! The images of real watches in different lighting conditions and not taken by professional photographers really helps people focus and decide on their specifications. |

tell you what my man, both are awesome......
it is a tough call. I saw this first, and got it. if I saw the Rhodium first, I likely would have gotten that. But I am thrilled with this. Goes with literally everything and anything. Dress it up, or down. It is super.

I'm seriously considering making a DJ41, jubilee, fluted, black stick my only Rolex. Saw it at the AD and it is nearly the perfect watch. I have other sport watches that I won't sell, so getting rid of the sub, BLNR and Deep Blue won't leave a hole in the collection. Free up some funds to buy a Lange 1, though.

Silver is definitely the way to go with the smooth bezel & jubilee. It provides a nice balance between the elements, color-wise. For me, the rhodium adds another color that competes with the shine of the bezel and intricacy of the bracelet. |

I knew I liked it as soon as I saw it, but that flat white dial on a datejust is just so appealing. I don't even like white dials for the most part, but it just works so well for this model.

Looks great Seth! After I wore a jubilee for a short time I really fell in love with it. It's extremely comfortable.

Smooth with jubilee grabbed me out of nowhere too it wasn't even on my radar. I was almost pulling the trigger on the Explorer I or Black GMTC when I saw this one and I couldn't let it go. Jubilee is sturdier than ever super light and comfortable. I like the easy link clasp. Miss the hidden clasp a little but love the watch overall! The smooth bezel balances the sporty with dressy IMHO. And I'm 37. Looking at the Day Date next, what the hell is happening to me!!

Just do it!! I can't wait to put the watch on, I even wear my Daytona less because of the DJ41 the clean dial and date is just where I'm at at this point in my life.

That is one of the pictures that lead me to decide on the spec I want. I agree though that the Silver Dial is equally stunning. A difficult choice between the two and probably or with no wrong answer.
What a beautiful watch. |

I was originally thinking to buy this exact white stick DJ41 but eventually backed off because I personally felt it was too modern and not classic Rolex. Maybe I am an old soul but I prefer my Rolex's to look timeless. The ones they are producing now don't feel as iconic and elegant to me.
Don't get me wrong, its a beautiful watch and I can see why someone would want one. Rolex has improved the finishes but I think they are losing their soul in the process of modernization. I hope they don't go the way of BMW.

Interesting post and beautiful watch. If the olive green dial was available on this model and the clasp was hidden, I would get one.

But I prefer the way it looks to oyster, and there is comparison in comfort. Of course this is all subjective. But to me, oyster is now everywhere and it's somewhat boring. Hard to put into words. But try it on, check it out. It really catches the eye and it feels super.
