Let's talk about my Rolex.com wishlist
I occasionally browse the Rolex website, probably a lot of us do, and I use the "wish list" feature where you can choose some watches as your next desired purchase. It's kind of a cool feature that lets you go directly to the model(s) you want to see. Now, my next Rolex, at least in my fantassy world, is an AG model, white gold actually. I mean absolutely no offense to anyone that owns a YG or Rose Gold, they are gorgeous watches, but for me, it's definitely WG. We can talk about why in a different thread but I have found two Rolexs I lust after in WG and can't decide which I would buy! This is all fantassy, I am still enjoying my new DJ 41 and won't be able to afford an AG anytime in the near future but a WIS has to have dreams doesn't he!? So, here are the choices:
A. The WG Daydate. This, is an obvious one, the flagship of Rolex. It is very near in appearance to my Datejust 41 but is (obviously) a step up. B. The WG GMT II. This is also a classic. The Pepsi GMT has and always will be an icon in the Rolex family and the AG model is absolutely stunning. Now, the obvious difference is one is a sport model, the other a dress, but let's take a look at a couple others. GMT - The third hand, movable bezel, and the red/blue color. DD- Day written out, fluted bezel, distinctive band. They are both incredible watches but if you had the funds to purchase one, and only one of those, which would it be and why? |

Let's talk about my Rolex.com wishlist
Interesting thread Paul... I just got my "grail" watch a few minutes ago. One that has been in my wish list for almost 10 years. One of the colors of gold you mentioned. I am still in shock. Incoming thread soon.
To answer your question: the DD is the one I would choose. After the release of the WG GMT I got more and more interested in the original Pepsi which I eventually got. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Paul, the WG DD is outstanding and should be your next watch.
Last week at my AD, I put it on my wrist and was suprised how heavy the WG DD is

Personally, I also prefer WG. I've tried on the YG sub many times and it is just too bright.

WG Pepsi would be a nice add to my PM family.

I am a huge DD fan and may eventually own one again but probably not for the immediate future. I do not like the lack of adjustment in the bracelet for the DD. For the money and a modern watch you should have some type of micro adjustment other than adding or removing links. I will also not have a watch that is that expensive that does not fit right every time I wear it. I currently have a WG Submariner and choose it over the BLRO solely based on resale/flip value. I really like the BLRO and it is on my bucket list, just down the road.

Paul: both, great options! Tough choice. I love the DD. In your case, the GMT would be very different as the DJ is dress-ier (I know, it can easily be worn with jeans or swimsuit )

Tough choice. In my opinion, those are two at the top of the WG food chain.
For me, the DD40 would probably win out...but at the end of the day you've just got to ask yourself, are you a DD guy or a GMT guy. For you, since you've got the DJ41...maybe the GMT? |

Ironic, I was doing the exact same thing this morning and stumbled upon this Day-Date that I think is absolutely gorgeous.

WG gmt. Amazing watch! One thing I have noticed is that that my wishlist seems to change every time I go to a GTG. Lol

At these prices, I'd look elsewhere for a statement watch, specifically Patek, Lange, various independents. Steel or nothing for me.

The design of DD is similar to DJ. I would suggest to get the BLRO.

" It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex." (BLRO)
Based on the info you've provided, I'd go GMT. It has EasyLink, GMT comp, that satisfying turning bezel, and it's an icon just the same. DD is absolutely beautiful, and on my long list; but for small collections with a DJ already in tow, GMT is a great next step. All aside, if you want some WG and a moving fluted bezel, Sky Dweller is currently topping my wishlist. It literally has it ALL. I'm hoping I win a lottery of some kind soon bc the new Basel releases have been bugging me.

I lean more sports so would probably go with the BLRO and the DJ41, but that blue DD40 is fantastic and nice with a GMTc, and if ever a Coke C then that would be my pair.

Loving the DayDate, Paul. Though I'm liking the chocolate brown dial Julian posted.

Between those choices, I'd go WG DD with the green dial. I generally prefer sports watches all I own are sports watches but the colors on the BLRO bezel don't quite click with me. I've tried them in natural and artificial lighting and just cant love the BLRO bezel colors.

So long story short...I wouldn't let that be the war stopper in the decision process. And yes, the GMT has the easy link adjustment system. |
