Daytona Wait List Experience

Afternoon, TRF

I've been in the hunt for a new piece for a little while now and really have the hots for a steel ceramic Daytona. However, I'm not willing to pay the $4,000 to $6,000 premium for one on the gray or second hand market. What kind of time frame am I looking at by going through an AD? Also, when I ask to be placed on the wait list, how much deposit should I be expected to put down?

Thanks for any help in advance!

No deposit at most ADs and with no impressive buying history I'm afraid the wait could be years
But worth the wait!

I'm on waiting lists in across Canada. No deposit needed but wait lists are 3 and 4 years long. From what I've heard, this is par for the course in most areas.

Toronto area is the worst at 5 years and they're not even taking anymore names.

Echo Dr. Tom's comments. I might add that I think you can find a nice own pre-owned on the forum classifieds for less than $4-6k.

I have been #1 on a list at a dealer in Pittsburgh since the day the Daytona was announced. I am sure the larger fish have got theirs from this dealer. The dealer just called me to try to sell me another brand of watch. (I did not bite, although I am sure my Daytona would "show up " rather quickly if I spent 30-40 on another watch.)

I have only bought one other watch from this dealer at more than double the price of the Daytona.

Good luck on your quest!

I bought an 18k piece and was offered a ss daytona at the same time, unfortunately it was the black dial so I waited a week for the white dial.
It's worth the wait.

Reading these and must agree, had mine two months now, I have quite a history with the AD and said that I would take one when it was first launched last year.

I am afraid the grey market is your best bet, but heavy mark ups.

For the place where I'm on a 3 year wait, I just bought $21k piece last week and the lady whispered "when one comes in, I'll call you...". Made it sound like it's gonna happen real soon. We'll see. Look out for my incoming if it does. Hahaha

I should be getting one sometime this month. Manager at AD that I've been dealing with for several years is taking care of me. I asked about it and within 2 days she told me one was coming. Nothing down. I have purchased multiple Rolex and Tudor from this AD not to mention the many necklaces and earrings for the wife...

Yep....at this point you gotta pay to play....either 1) Buy other pieces (PM recommended) and move up the priority list or 2) Pay the aftermarket premium. There is a very minute possibility of getting on AD lists on small ADs perhaps in the midwest/non-metropolitan areas...but this is a toss up also. Problem is the watch is so infamous now that the ADs know what they got to play with the moment they get one....and they're not going to want to sell it @ MSRP for no reason.

Just pay the few K premium if you want one now. Looking to get onto a list this late after launch I think you will be waiting for years...

I went the premium route through my trusted seller and I'm happy I did, YMMV. Figured life is short, it's the watch I really really wanted, and I was quoted anywhere from 5-10 years waiting with no guarantees (assuming I'd still be alive by then hehe) by various ADs who were kind enough to put me on their lists.

A lot of the ADs play games with this watch. A handful of them required I make a major purchase prior to being put on "the list" and one AD even told me that they don't operate a list but the owner single handedly picks and chooses who they sell their SS Daytonas to...

You might be able to source a like-new D500 from the forums at less of a premium, and also my sales tax would be 10% so your local sales tax might narrow the delta as well when considering the premium.

A lot of good advice on this thread that I echo. Without a history with an AD, it's pretty unlikely in less than 3 years. BUT it should cost you nothing to put your name on a few lists and then you can take your time deciding weather to pay a premium from a TS.

Finally got mine last week. Interestingly, I spoke with the salesman from the other AD whose list I was on. He recently retired and reached out. He candidly let me know that I had virtually no chance at his former AD as I only had one prior purchase from them. Not surprisingly, the DaytonaCs are going to their whales who stumble in and just ask for it out of the blue.

Switch your hunt to a PM Daytona. Not much more (than the 500C premium) and easier to find.

Have to agree with you Rich.
I'm still #7 per my AD.
But I've gone and got this...

I think it'll fill the bill for now...

Now that's how you put the DaytonaC out of mind! What a beauty.

Even if you waited, with the Rolex price increases every year, it could very well end up the same price few years down the road than if you paid the premium now.

I was lucky enough to get mine in just about a month. Maybe I was a bit lucky so I wouldn't expect that. I asked the sales person how I was able to get one so quickly. I was told the owner wanted to build a relationship with me for the long term. I think it worked!

After calling a few dozen ADs both in and out of state, I'm on a few lists. I'm not really expecting anything to develop but I have a small chance with one AD. For those of us who have not spent much, the so-called list is simply a way to humor someone and perhaps create an opportunity to sell something else. I'm not ape about having the SS Daytona C or I'd have one already. I do like some of the new PM Daytona C models but won't buy without the PM band.

I've been on the list for a white dial. Have had two opportunities to purchase a black dial and did so for the second one. It is unworn and put up.
Still waiting for the white. Then I can decide which one or both I want to keep.
Good luck

AD said waiting time will be 3-4 years.

Currently, almost all SS Daytona are channeled to gray market ......
