Getting back into cycling

My wife and I bought our son a road bike for his birthday so I dusted off my road bike and went for a ride with him and it kind of hooked me back into the sport. I bought a new chain for my bike and two new tires and went for a ride yesterday morning. I really enjoyed being back on the bike too.

I'm a little sore in the shoulders today but otherwise I feel pretty good.

Anyone else into cycling?

I've owned this bike for more than 10 years, ridden a couple centuries on it and commuted to and from work on it too. I have thousands of miles on this bike. The frame is lugged carbon fiber tubes with Campagnolo Chorus 10 speed group and Mavic Ksyrium ES wheels.

My prized bike - though it doesn't get much riding time (only on perfect weather days) because I'm afraid of scratching the beautifully sandblasted Ti frame that came out of a wonderful independent shop in Boulder. Frame is completely custom geometry and designed for complete internal Shimano Di2 wiring (using Ultegra Di2). Handselected every part that went into this build (mostly German Schmolke, Tune and THM components) and it comes in at just under 15 pounds - one of the lightest builds my shop has seen for a Ti frame despite the Gatorskins and the relatively heavy ENVE 3.4 SES wheelset.

Nice! My bike is just a hair over 17lbs with saddle, water bottle cages and pedals (ready to ride).

Don't ride as much as I like but climb in the saddle at every opportunity. My son and I did 30 miles on Monday.

Very nice! I had an S5 for a few months from its initial launch... then it was totalled when I got broadsided by a car at 30 miles per hour.

And oh, I built this 13 pounder aluminum bike - which I dismantled to build my current Ti bike only after 2 rides. The frame is now my commuter.

I confess to being a Cannondale freak, and I've had quite a few exotic (Ti & Carbon) bikes along the way.

I ride to work most days on an e-bike but my road bikes are my first love.

Now I've got a Cannondale Black Inc Hi-Mod and a Synapse Hi-Mod.

I'm on 28mm tires mostly these days but 10 years ago 18-23mm was the norm. 28mm give a little more comfort and less rolling resistance, but who would have thought so....

Thorough cleaning once a week (usually after the Sunday ride).

You clean them just like cars.

The mud and grit will wear metal parts fast, you need to clean and lube regularly

Scratches from actual use will make your bike look even better than it does currently.

It's a road bike, it doesn't get THAT dirty.

Mine gets a wipe down with microfiber rag and some spray cleaner every other week or so. Plus, you really need to clean and lube the chain every now and then too.

I rode mine and then cleaned it before taking the pic I posted above.

Those photos are a bit old - the Ti has since oxidized further and any marks I had seem to have faded with the oxidization. That said, I am careful (maybe overly so) with all of my possessions. That includes my watches - I know some here love the scratches on their watches, but I don't. I do wear them, but I am extremely careful to the point where it almost becomes an obsession (e.g. I never lay any metal parts down on flat surfaces).

Love cycling here in Southern CA and do weekly group rides. This is one of my bikes... Trek Madone 9.5 with Dura Ace group set riding on Aeolus 7 wheels. I got into cycling pretty heavily this past year and just bought my lady a Specialized Amira Pro. Much cheaper habit than the watches!
