Seeking Guidance (to SubC or to BLNR)
Hi fellow members
Here it is, simple and to the point. My pictured collection speaks for itself. I am set on adding a dress watch and have the budget (JLC MUT) but I also want to add a GMT (preferably a BLNR or maybe 5 digit Pepsi). However, in order to add the BLNR I need to flip something! Given that the Seamaster PO is a gift from my wife and also my first mechanical watch ever, it is not an option. So with a diver safe in my collection (SM PO), would you advise I flip the SubC Date for a BLNR? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I recently did just that. I had a Sub-C date that I wore daily for the last few years. Decided a GMT function would be somewhat useful for me, and like the look of the BLNR.
Keeping both was not an option, as I knew the Sub would just sit in my safe, so I let it go. I'm very happy with the BLNR, and don't regret selling the Sub. |

Nice collection! I would go BLNR, you'll never regret that and if you did very easy to flip the BLNR back to a sub.

Actually your collection looks pretty good as is. I personally think you'll regret selling the Sub. If I would flip anything it would be the PO but you already said it's off limits. The Speedy new and second hand market is as low as I've seen it so I wouldn't try to offload it. Plus it's an incredible watch. I really like the Datejust, and that is your only dressy piece.
What about saving for a 16570? There are still deals to be had on those, especially the black dial. I had a chance at a ceramic gmt, a 216570, or a 16570 and after trying them all on I found that the ceramic gmt was too close in how it looked and felt to my 116610LN, the 216570 proportions were off (especially that weird fatty minute hand), but the 16570 fit like a glove and surprisingly handsome. I got a late model 16570 so mine has the upgraded 3186 movement. |

under the circumstances (taking the Omega off the table) i don't think it's a bad move.
Since you already have the plan and budget to add the JLC, why don't you make that move first. You might ultimately find that the dressiness of the JLC, along with the DJ41 and PCLs of the BLNR might make you miss the rugged Submariner. A 16710 on the other hand, would make more sense IMO, simply because it's still rugged but very versatile and harder to get and replace. If you ever wanted a 16710 pepsi, don't wait, just get it. |

I like your logic. The SubC is a classic, but I personally would not have two so similar divers if your keeping the SeaMaster. Plus it gives you the easy equity for the new watch.
The BLNR and that touch of blue will look really damn good with that collection |

Flip the sub! Unless it has sentimental value...
I had a sub C alongside my BLNR and the Sub literally never got worn. I had to force myself to wear it. |

If it has to be mostly funded with cash from a sale, I'd flip the DJ and the Speedy to buy the BLNR. Keep the Sub. If you can kick in a little more cash I'd say keep the Speedy, sell the DJ and buy the BLNR

I would flip the DJ for a BLNR, in my books, sub is a keeper in any collection.

I've owned a few 116610's and BLNR's. I'd flip the 116610 in a second for a BLNR or 16170

I'd flip the SubC for the BLNR....it's still a modern reference and you could always pick up another, or a SubC no date, or a LVc......flip away!

Flip the DJ. You won't regret it, especially if you're getting a master moon.

No way I'd flip the Sub for a BLNR even if you have to keep the PO. I'd move the DJ.

Flip the SubC for the BLNR, then re-aquire a Sub sometime in the future but make it a 4 or 5-digit reference.
