Icon5 Poll on next Rose Gold purchase: PP5164r or AP 44mm RG Offshore Ceramic

Hi Guys,

I am currently torn to decide between the following 2 Rose Gold brands/models as my next RG purchase and would be great to get more opinions to ponder over:

Pictures credit from online searches and
thanks so much to original photo owners(WCL) for these excellent photos.

Both being quite similar in pricing as well but i do agree they look quite different especially in size but are looking very sporty and elegant at the same time.

Currently in my rotation are:
1) Patek 5960/1A White Dial
2) Patek 5980/1A Blue Dial
3) AP 44mm offshore ceramic with Anthracite dial

Any inputs/views weclome

1) Patek 5164r Traveltime

2) AP 44mm Rose Gold offshore Chrono 2017 Novelty

Cheers

I voted for the 44 AP personally I think both of them are equally beautiful, but it also depends on if you'd be using it daily or not and I think 5164r would fit a formal attire much better but as a daily the 44ap hands down.

RG ROO and then add the 5164a later!

For me a travel time is for traveling so you want it to be a little more under the radar and a little more robust

Coming from a steel owner of a 5164 and an AP FC, I honestly think the older rose gold version of the AP is a lot nicer than the newer one but the dial on the 5164r is a killer dial.. comfortable and wearability but it's your choice at the end of the day

out of those 2 it would be the 44MM AP.

Now if you said a Nautilus 5980 RG on bracelet - well thats a different story

Plan will be to wear in rotation with my other watches.
Agree to some extend that 5164r fits a formal attire more due to the size at least.

Get the RG ROO first and adding the SS 5164a is sure something interesting which i had not thought about yet. :)

I owned the older dial 44mm rose gold ceramic offshore for about 1 year previously. Love the dial and watch but just a tad heavy hence certainly not a daily. This will not stop me from considering the new dial though :)

I love the PP 5980 RG on bracelet but that would require lots more money and too much gold with the bracelet. But the PP 5980r (leather strap)might be closer to the range in the poll but perhaps around $10k more.

Cheers

IMO the 5164 looks the best in stainless steel but i love both references you are comparing.

Of the two, and in the metal options you stated, the RG44 by a mile.

5164A and RG 44 would be a tougher choice for me, so i got both

After seeing the new dial RG ROO in person it’s an amazing piece and would be my first for a RG piece follow by the Summer Edition.

The 5164 is nice but for me has to be SS

Much prefer the RG44, but then I'm not a fan of the PP at all, so am biased.

What an awesome collection. I really REALLY like both pieces and choosing between them is a very tough call.

On balance, i would likely choose the RG44, as it's a more striking piece

I like both, so I'd get the 44RG and trade the 5960 for the 5164R.

44 is too large and in your face! Chrono less useful then a GMT for me... Can't get used to lack of balance on AP 3 big dials and tiny date window. So lesser of two evils for me...the 5164R

You've got a chrono, and a travel time complication would round things out nicely with a useful complication.

The AP is hideous while the PP is sublime.

Obviously get the 5164 and travel in style!

Super tough choice. I've seen both in person and they are both drop dead stunning. The RG44 is more "in your face", while the 5164 is pure class. I would take the 5164R of the two considering you already have a 44mm ROO.

That's your opinion and you're welcome to it, although its very misguided. Personally I dislike the rounded soft shape of the PP, which can't seem to make its mind up if its a dress watch or sports watch, and in consequence does neither well.

I like them both but voted AP 44mm Rose Gold offshore Chrono 2017 Novelty.

I like them both a lot. But I still would go with the AP if I could only choose one.

Great pics! What an awesome 1-2 combo. Makes me pine for the 5164A again....the ss Travel Time is still the most comfortable watch I have ever owned.

Getting back to the poll question. Since my wrist is only 7", I would choose the 5164R between the 2 models. The RG44 is an incredible watch though.

I would not get a gold travel time. I'd get a 5711R if you really wanted to compare something comparable to the 44 RG

Why would you even want another 44 ROOC?
Surely a regular RG ROC would be more in keeping with the 5164 being considered?

And with the price difference, you could opt for an additional watch which is completely different to what you already have, just to add an extra bit of variety.

http://www.colette.fr/mo-rddbex0509-...odbe509-1.html – ignore the price, as it can be picked up for much less.

Some people like multiple 44's. They are quite different from each other if you would have a CE and RG like the OP or in my case Ti and RG

I think the ROC wears a little large for the type of watch it is. Not a deal breaker, but it isn't supposed to be a big watch in the same way a ROO is.

Actually tried on a similar RD to the one you linked last weekend, and was not a fan.
