Exciting raffle event at local AD: Daytona / Skydweller / SD43 (with pictures)

This evening I attended a Rolex Daytona Exhibition event at our local AD. Arrived around 6:15 and left around 8 ish after the raffles ended. I missed the opportunity to win one of the raffles by one digit. :)

The AD had fIve Daytona-Cs, two SS Skydwellers (blue and black, both gorgeous), two TT Skydwellers (champagne dial and black dial), one SD43 in store and two more SD43s coming in that they were raffling.

Needless to say a lot of excitement around the room and lucky ones walked away with sweet watches. (there is another thread by one of the lucky winners.)

I was hoping to win a Sea dweller. Well, wanted and didn’t want to at the same time. My wife wasn’t involved and a surprise unplanned purchase of such value in her absence wouldn’t have been cool.

At arrival I ran into another enthusiast that works in our company. We have run into each other in elevators at work a few times and he had noticed and made comments about my LV. Anyway, The two of us hung out for the duration of event. One cool thing that happened was that some guy who won the third (incoming) seadweller was standing next to us and said he didn’t want the ticket once his ticket number was announced as a winner. At first I thought he was joking but the coworker of mine standing next to me asked to receive the ticket and ended up getting the ticket and getting the watch. Very nice of the guy to pass on his winning ticket and good for my coworker. I did not act quickly and lost the chance but all is good. (well, given the above explanation I wasn’t 100% up for It anyway).

Let me say this: if I had won any of the Skydwellers, it would have been passed on to one of the forum members here who had mentioned to me in the past that he was looking for a SS Skydweller. I would have passed it to him at the purchase price since , while beautiful, it is not a watch of my preference at this time. If I had won the Daytona C I would have probably kept it.

I took some picture of the event that I will share below, including one from my personal BLNR next to the WatchTime magazine participants received in a goody bag.

Great team working at this AD, I have bought a few watches and other jewelry there since back in 2000. Tonight they went out of their way to have a great event and deserve a big

The SD43 that I was kinda hoping to win!

Tried on this beauty as well. Mixed feelings about the diamonds, but that dial is to die for.

Looks like a great event Faz

How much were the raffle tickets ? They must've sold a lot to give away that many pieces.

I got the impression that the winning ticket gave you an opportunity to purchase the watch and that you didn't win it for nothing. I could be wrong though. Otherwise I doubt that winner would have given away a winning ticket.

Sounds good on the face of it, but a raffle just to have the chance of buying a Rolex at full retail really is a sign of the times.

True Neil. I've never seen it done here in our area. I guess there's too much supply

There is another thread about a Raffle event. Are they the same one? That one has 200 people.

It sounds to me like you "get" a free raffle ticket for entering. If they call your number, you have the option of buying whichever watch they are currently raffling for MSRP.

It's actually a pretty democratic way to allocate hard to get watches, although I guess you have a clear a hurdle to be invited to the event.

Exciting raffle event at local AD: Daytona / Skydweller / SD43 (with pictures)

Thanks everyone, will get back to the thread in a bit ( my early morning now, need to get kids to school etc) but yes, basically people were invited, given a free raffle ticket at entrance, served wine/beer/sweets, then raffle tickets were called and those who won would buy the watch at the full MSRP.

Yes still charitable and very much appreciated.

But as I said in another thread, SD43 at MSRP+ tax is very close to prices from TS here. The real big winners were the Daytona and sky dwellers. No one would pass those up.

Yes, sign of times for sure.

I joked with a tired looking lady who looked to be there unwillingly with her husband, and told her ‘isn’t it amazing that people are standing in line and waiting to ‘win’ to handover their money and buy at full MSRP???’

AD did sale of about $150k-160k on a those watches alone in the event. More power to them really, as they are being transparent and honest about the high demand watches they receive, and pass those to general buyers, rather than playing mark ups or other funny business. I respect that. plus there was wine and beer and party and socializing and excitement too. Win win all around.

Is that Rolex book just on the Daytona? (Might have to ask my AD if they can get or have that for me)

As mentioned and you know by now, the raffle tickets were free and only a chance to win the opportunity to buy at MSRP.

Yes must be the same event. Apparently OP on that thread (winner of one of the Daytonas) and I were there. Probably more people from this forum there too.

Great little write up, Faz! That's a dangerous event...As I would be auctioning off clothing in real-time to try fund a purchase, had my number been called. That Green/Gold Daytona is always a killer to look at

I was at the event last night and was one of the lucky winners on a black Daytona. The Daytona book as a party gift is a keeper. I would advise any Daytona enthusiasts to asked their AD for a copy. This year’s event was less crowded than last year but last year had more watches on display.
