As much as I hate thieves...it's hard to be sympathetic to this kind of gullible behavior. Random stranger asks you to hold x thousand of yours and you just say ok?

Your best lesson is sometimes your last mistake. Hopefully he will be more careful in future.

Another aspect of whether or not your kid is too young for a Rolex. Yes, they are plenty of teenaged kids "mature" enough to appreciate and cherish the timepiece, but gullibility is a different issue.

Feel sorry for the kid but it is his fault anyway. Out at 2am with a Rolex on in NYC, he was asking for it.

Wouldn't surprise me if he lost/sold it and then made up the story. Hard to believe anyone is that gullible to just hand a watch over to a stranger.

I was a thirteen year old hanging out in the East Village in the hippie era. My parents moved me to a better area for a bunch of reasons some of which had to do with my well being. Not any Rolexes that I remember but a lot of spoiled rich brats growing up in that area. I'm sure it's only gotten worse. Chances are this is an example of easy come, easy go. Either that or it went to pay a bill he didn't want his parents to know about and it's a smoke screen.

West Village may have expensive real estate, but it also has a lot of bars. At night, especially weekend nights, it's converged upon by scumbags from near and far. He should have been a lot more skeptical of the woman who approached him

16 year old out at 2am in NYC:

1. Stupid is as stupid does

2. His parents may be stupid also, I'm not sure. I snuck out of my parents house A LOT after i turned 14. I was lucky i didnt die on several occasions.

I'd assume he was either out drinking at bars with a fake ID, or walking home from drinking at a friend's house

Hooker stole it when he was in the shower. That's my guess.

If this young man thought a post-midnight incall was a good occasion to wear his Rolex, then I propose two actions:

1) Rolex HQ will create a "No-Fly" list, the members of which are forever banned from purchasing product from any AD or services from any RSC.

2) This kid will be added to the the aforementioned list.

If one leads with their chin then they're going to get smacked in the mouth.

As my Grandfather used to say "The best experience, is the experience you pay for".

No sympathy from me i'm afraid.
I hope it's a salutary lesson well learnt.

There is a 1 liquor license for every 2 acres of Manhattan Island. When I was marauding there, if you were tall enough to see over the bar and had cash, that was ID enough

I'm wondering if he woke up upside down in a bush with his pants around his ankles and this story is an insurance scam.

I can't believe anyone would be that dumb. Unless, of course, the subject woman was, well, you know................
