Icon7 Rolexes From Family

I recently inherited this 1969 Rolex Oyster Date 6694 from my late uncle in the Philippines. I cherish this piece, and it's a nice addition to my collection. My uncle and I bonded over our passion for timepieces which is what makes this watch even more special.

I would love to hear your stories about Rolexes inherited or gifted from your families or the Rolexes that you passed on or gifted to your children. And feel free to post photos!

Wow, that’s as good looking as a watch gets! Very nice.

Unfortunately, I’ve only inherited pocket watches, which aren’t particularly relevant these days.

I inherited this OP36 upon the passing of my father. It is well-worn, the only watch he ever truly wanted after immigrating to the US. And as you can tell, it was his constant companion in all things, up until the very end.

I have only daughters, so any watch I pass on to them will likely not be ones I've worn.

Wow. That’s awesome. I’d bolt that incredible watch to my wrist and never take it off!

I wish I could. It still works perfectly but doesn't size down enough for me to wear it. I'm torn as to whether or not to get it refurb'd by one of the trusted shops here.

The watch was the personalization of the American Dream for my dad. Really the only luxury he afforded himself. It embodies more than what any of my watches mean to me and gives me a precious opportunity for reflection.

I can’t imagine not wearing it! It’s fantastic. Maybe just a new crystal (keep the old one) and have a link removed and you’ll be good to go.

I have an Omega that my Grandfather purchased in 1956 at a PX when my grandmother and mother were stationed in Fairbanks AK. It needs some work now but he also has a newer one that he still wears.

That's a great watch. I am a firm believer of keeping vintage watches in their current condition, and if any repairs need to be made to them, you should only fix them enough to make it tick.

I was actually suspicious of the 69 Rolex Date that I inherited for being fake because it looked too new. I had it appraised, and I found out that the face of the watch was replaced, but it was an authentic Rolex.

My parents gave me this when I graduated from university in 1988. I wore it a lot but less now. I foolishly had the dial changed from champagne as it was hard to read. I wish I’d have left it. Great watch! Tough as nails....

Congratulations!

As far as I know, no member of my family has ever owned a Rolex.

I have inherited nothing from anyone--ever.

I bet they mean as much or more to you. Hard work pays off. That’s why my parents gave me mine. I gave up a good job to better myself. I was lucky to have their support.

I have never inherited a quality time piece or even a Rolex. To the OP or those that have, I admire them and hope you wear and cherish them.

I hope my step-son someday will appreciate the nice collection I will leave him when I pass. It would mean more than any dollar amount they are worth, to know they are worn by loved ones with a patina from years of adventures.

Very nice

I don't know anyone in my family that wears a Rolex. Looks like I'll be the one passing them on

This is a 1945 18k Bubbleback bought new and worn everyday by my great grandpa.

Oyesterquartz from my grandfather given by my grandmother when it came out.

This is an Explorer 2, case serial #'s indicate a case made in 1975, given to my father by my grandpa on his 18th birthday, bought new also.

My mother owns a lady datejust on gold/steel from 1986 bought new, I just dont have pics here atm.

I was given a new YM on steel/platinum on my 20th birthday, which sadly got stolen from me when I was robbed a couple years back (the case of the explorer 2 pic is actually my YM's case), bummer :( , but I wasn't hurt or shot at (since they were 8 guys on a pickup truck with guns and assault rifles) so material stuff will be replaced in the future.

So yeah, Rolex runs in the family and it will continue to do so

Very nice, but the 6694 is a manual wind Oysterdate. Yours looks like an automatic 1500 Oyster Perpetual Date.

Old Expat Beast, You may be right. Because it is an automatic.

What is the four-digit reference number on the case?
